Failed installation "Security update for the 2007 Microsoft Office

I am using Windows XP Pro and office 2007 enterprise on a standalone laptop.
The following update from Windows update fails to install repeatedly and is
stuck in the icon tray with the yellow shield .
"Security update for the 2007 Microsoft Office system (KB951944)"
I've run office diagnostics and it does not show any problem.
I tried to run the original installation CD for office 2007, but it
indicates that the installation routine is already running and will not let
me run it again. This stuck update is also preventing me from getting any
new office updates; when I go to the office update website it tries to scan
for what updates are needed and it says it cannot determine it due to an
error.
I have worked with the Dell goal techsupport and cannot find a solution.
Does anybody have any ideas?
