After volunteering the information above...

You might try:

Start button --> RUN --> Type in:
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
--> Click OK.

Reboot.

Try again.

You also might want to scan your computer with a pair of good antimalware
applications (freeware):

SuperAntiSpyware
http://www.superantispyware.com/

MalwareBytes
http://www.malwarebytes.com/

Just to ensure your system is clean. You will probably be surprised if you
have never done something like that before. You can uninstall them when you
are done using them *if you like*.

Try again.

Still giving you trouble? Might try this fix:

How do I reset Windows Update components?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058

Try again.

In *any* case - please do come back and let everyone know what specifically
fixed your issue - if anything - of the above. If you still have the
issue - come back and add to this conversation so you can continue to
receive help until your issue is resolved. This conversation is archived
(likely in several places) for an indefinite time - years - so you coming
back and posting "this fixed it" can help those who search for answers in
the future find the confidence to try something.
