I don't blame you for being nervous, but the thing is going to
change from time to time, and the new version seems better.

Better at what? Making XP run smoothly?

The update's function is to shame users with softlifted Windows into
coughing up for this Microsoft operating system they're using. If you
do not approve of this, or think Microsoft is lying about respecting
your privacy, as it is about the program being uninstallable, reject it.
It's sort of like going to the circus - if a few kids sneak under the tent
without buying tickets, it's not that big of a deal. If 90% of the crowd
has done that, the circus needs to do something about the tent flaps.

But it doesn't do *anything* to improve XP or the user's experience and
can lead to problems.

I was tricked into install the first one. I have researched MS'
instructions on how to remove it and the instructions are flawed. So, if
I want my computer to be WGA SPYWARE free, I need to reformat and
reinstall Windows. Of course, the day may come when it will be required,
not optional, to get updates.

This is BS. A pirated copy can be set to AU with download but let me
install and the pirated copy can continue to be used with all the bona
fide critical updates. The people who do download WGA SPYWARE think they
have a legit copy and usually do. As has been posted here and elsewhere,
legit copies get flagged as pirated copies. In addition, MS has NO right
to insist that its paying customers be the police. If MS thinks they are
being stolen from, the should call the police or FBI, not act like THEY
are the police or FBI.

It's more like Big Brother forcing paying customers to fix the flaps.

Flawed and very complicated instructions. No thanks. I will reformat
first. I know how to do that right.
Note that there are no instructions for the latest WGA SPYWARE as it is
uninstallable.

KB905474-Uninstaller.exe will get rid of it. Worked for me last night.
Find it at http://patch-info.de/WinXP/2006/06/07/05-47-32.html
Just what I want to do, spend my time uninstalling spyware. Besides, I
can't read German.

Thanks, but I will reformat this weekend, not just because of WGA but
for other reasons as well.

Notifications seems to hobble connecting, so it's best not to install it, I think.
They'll remind me when they further improve it - I can see if it's better then.
I recommend quickening the inevitable clean installations by buying imaging:

10. Locate and then right-click the following registry subkeys. Click
Delete after you locate each subkey.·
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\
CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\WgaLogon
· HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\
CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\WgaLogon
· HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
\CurrentVersion\removeremove\WgaNotify (there is a WgaNotify entry but
not in "removeremove". There is no "\removeremove\")
Also, in step 8 it tells you to delete two files that won't be deleted,
Wgatray.exe and Wgalogon.dll because you renamed them in step 3. Is
this bulletin BS or am I missing something? Or is it just my PC, which
is running XP Pro with all updates except the new version of WGA?

Please note that the OP is running version 526 of
Notifications, as am I. But KB921914 specifically states that
it's uninstall instructions apply only to versions beginning
with 527.
Do the same instructions work for 526? If not, how does one
uninstall 526?
I've been trying to get an official answer to this for a couple
days now, but can't. Anybody know?

I'm pretty sure "removeremove" is really "Uninstall". But
of course, I could be wrong. After all, not being an
official Microsoft person, I don't know all the inside
lingo.
And yes, the first two look indentical to me too.

Yep. There is also the question of what you do with the
copies of these files in the system32\dllcache folder.

This is called failure to proof your work, to make sure it's
right, before publishing it.
I would add the problem I've posted about in other messages
- this KB article doesn't appear to cover the version
installed on my computer, v1.5.526. Says it only covers
versions beginning with 527. Well, you know, that's
probably BS too, but I just wish I could get some one to
officially confirm that.
How time flies when you're having fun.
No one official has answered. I am merely a user, so not official.
I did respond to your new message:
MS uninstall info for pilot WGA Notifications updated 6/30, but...
I suggested that if you were unwilling to try a couple ways to get
an official response, that you prepare and experiment.
