1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually:

2. Run this online scan (in safe mode w/networking, if need be):

3. Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting the requested
logs in an appropriate forum.

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this

I, too, am having an IE issue... I use Explorer 7 and have Automatic updates.
Since Ms Automatic Updates sent 3 updates (Window malicious Software
Removal Tool, Update Rollup for ActiveX, and Cumulative Security Update),
I'm not sure what is causing the problem. After load, I have a reported "DNS
Error" but I can ping, net view and get email; I cannot get IE. There is
good connectivity...just no IE. It shows "Unable FTP, HTTP, and HTTPS
errors"... I checked the firewall and it seems to be OK. It shows a DNS
error, but nothing abnormal with a ping or net view. What could be the
issue. I have had to restore system to get IE back.

I have a wish that these automatic updates would be done separately so that
I would be able to determine which update is the problem. But, then again,
my expertise is not of the level to correct anything but the obvious.

Please explain or help.

Please begin a new thread about your problem. In your first post, state
your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista SP1).
