Vista or Vista SP1? Is this a sudden, new problem or an ongoing one? Do
you update via WSUS?

See if anything here helps:

The problem has been going on for about 2 weeks now Vista it started when I
tried upgrading to SP1, Also I forgot to add this but Windows Defender is not
able to look for new definitions. I used the windows updater that comes with
Vista on PC. The link you told me to try did not work either. Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Kurt

You couldn't open the page or its contents didn't help? If the former, try
this link instead: http://snipurl.com/2lys7

Did you attempt to install Vista SP1 via Windows Update or manually?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
(if any)? Were any of these applications running in the background when you
attempted to install SP1?

Understandable, as Defender updates via Windows Update. Was Defender able
to update OK prior to the attempt to install SP1?

Ok updated manually to SP1 but still wont update anything else. I tried both
the sites the info on either of the pages did not help the problem. As for
anti-Virus software I use Eacceleration and no other firewalls other then the
built in one to my Linksys router, but I have another computer using Vista on
same Router that is letting me update just fine.
Thank you,

I would NOT recommend installing Vista SP1 manually unless and until it's
offered by Windows Update.

I would recommend disabling your anti-virus application before installing or
uninstalling Vista SP1.

Since the problem only started after you manually installing Vista SP1, you
can try 2 things:

1. Uninstall Vista SP1 (with your anti-virus application disabled), reboot,
and see if the behavior persists.

or...

2. Open a free support incident:

Hi! All. I am new to this newsgroup. I have noticed a lot of folks
experiencing problems with this error code 80244019.
I tried a "fix" suggested by a friend who is in IT and it worked out ok for
me.
I hope I am using the correct forum to share this information with you and
please excuse me if I'm not.
Anyway this is the fix that worked -

In the search pane type in services

scroll down to Win HTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service

Right Click and go to - properties

In the "properties" pane look for startup type

select - Automatic

Make sure you select "Automatic" and not "Automatic delayed start"

Click - "Apply" and then "Ok"

Restart computer and then search for UPDATES

Worked fine for me, hope it helps others out.
