> Installation Failure
From KB900325:
Note To install this update, you must have Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 and
.NET Framework 1.1 SP1 installed. Windows Update detects whether these
packages are installed. Windows Update automatically installs these packages
for you.
If the 886904 update is installed, you must uninstall the 886904 update
before you install Update Rollup 2 for Microsoft Windows XP Media Center
Edition 2005. Otherwise, the .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 installation will not
succeed.
To determine whether the 886904 update is installed, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.
2. Click to select the Show Updates check box.
3. In the Currently installed programs list, look for the following
item:
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix (KB886904)
If this item appears, you must remove the hotfix. To remove the hotfix,
click Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix (KB886904), and then click Remove.
Then, visit the Windows Update Web sit to download and install Update Rollup
2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.

886903 is the MS05-004 update for .NET 1.1 with SP1
886904 is the MS05-004 update for .NET 1.1 without SP1.
Your statement that you have 886903 but not SP1 appears to be inconsistent.
Are you actually having any problems or was this just an enquiry?
After updated, I was then able to reinstall the KB904706 update as well as
other MCE updates that followed the rollup.
Thanks, again!
Can anyone help me get Explorer back up and running? Once that happens I
will worry about getting the media center update rollup 2.
Thanks.

At a rough guess, you need to uninstall IE 7 beta.

I am having this problem too. I need to install KB900325, but it fails with
error 0x643. I have IE 7 beta 3 installed. What all do I need to uninstall
before I try installing KB900325?
how did you remove it?
Hope that helps.
BUT... I was then able to go through the "MCSetup.log" file it created, and
I discovered that it was actually the KB895572 package which was spitting out
the 0x643 error code. And when I looked at the "KB895572.log", I found the
reason - which makes absolutely no sense, of course:
KB895572 is an update for Window Media Player 10, and if you attempt to
install it silently onto a system where Media Player *11* is installed, it
fails with an error code, which is then mapped to the 0x643 error code I've
come to love SOOO much. Basically, the error is something along the lines of
"This update is for Media Player 10. It will fail if the files it includes
are already installed".
Brain dead. The *correct* behavior, IMGHO, would be for it to return a
SUCCESS code if the files are already up to date, and NOT a failure code!
Anyway, the solution for me was quite simple: Uninstall Media Player 11,
install the Update Rollup 2, and then reinstall Media Player 11.
Problem solved.

Uninstalling the "Security Update for Windows XP (KB904706)" fixed my problem.
