There seems to be a bug in the Windows 7 ID3v2.3 interpreter that occurs for
all ID3v2.3 tags of more than 10 Mbytes.
When encountering such files, windows 7 explorer hangs for minutes on the
files. The delay times of the explorer increases with the ID3 tag size.
This can affect files with uncompressed album arts or mp3HD files, which
have large id3 tags.
Can anyone at Microsoft look at this?
Thanks

This is a peer support forum, so there really aren't any microsoft
people who hang out here to find this stuff out.

My guess is this is a gigantic edge case - you're saying an MP3(HD)
file of say 10-12MB could come with an ID3 tag of the same size as the
media file itself ?

It's not a scenario I'd thought of as common - can you give a use case
where this would become increasingly a thing that affects regular
users (say 1-5% or more) ?

I'm not even sure how to repro it, personally ;-)

Cheers - Neil

Hi Neil
actually Samsung just announced the first mp3HD player on the market
yesterday. So it might very well catch up.
the mp3HD file is a standard .p3 file which includes additional data in the
id3 tag.
this data can be about 4-5 times the size of the mp3 portion.
you can download demo tracks from all4mp3.com
