QUARTZ.DLL is a part of DirectX, I would start there.

OK... I changed the name of QUARTZ.DLL to DEVNULL.DLL and reinstalled a new
quartz.dll from the .dll-files.com site. It got up the Classic M player.
YEA !!!! It won't play, but still, its up, WMP is still "an internal
application error has occured". Now what do you think is next?

What's next might be to start where I said. I did not say to download
quartz.dll from dll-files.com, I don't think.

I was so excited about the mplayer coming up that I didn't mention
reinstalling DirectX. I did that first. Nothing happened when I did that.
I got the same error messages, both...
