No Audio when converting MPEG-2 or AVCHD files

When I try to encode either an MPEG-2 (.mpg) or AVCHD (.mts) file, the video comes out fine, but there is no sound. The files play fine in Windows Media Player. It seems like WME is using the right decoder for the video, but not for the audio. How can I tell which codecs WME is using? I'm writing a DirectShow source filter for MPEG-2 TS streaming. Its main purpose is to retransmit a transport stream from the network to WME9.
