Overlay Graphics and Text

Has anybody encoded with WME and put graphics/text overlays in their output?

I have tried to add the FFdshow as an addin and get a message that "there is
no common media between the pins" and for some reason the FFdshow filter is
not invoked on a WME9 encoder run.

I have found a product from Rogue River that is a directshow pin in, pin out
that works, but I am looking for a easy, free solution.

You can use FFMpeg and avisynth in combination to overlay video.
