version soup, which is why Robear asked if you had uninstalled IE6 before hand.

problem!! - a lot may resolve themselves at that time!! OK. .... 834707 IE55SP2

The resulting version soup could end up causing exactly the type of problem you'
re seeing now. My own preferred AV is AVG (www.grisoft.com) - I've found that it
never seems to conflict with system updates (I'm lazy, I don't like having to
turn off the AV to install an update<g>), and has a much smaller footprint ...

reinstall, or only if there were "version soup" problems after the reinstall?

Everything works fine except that the 837009 update won't install. Reinstalled
all the Windows Updates that the Windows Update said I need, except for 837009
and 890175. There may still be some mild "version soup" in IE/OE, but the
