My WindowsME does not complete shutdown and poweroff. Just hangs. On two
different machines, it works after installation but soon stops working.
What can fix this? What program or script file does this?

This problem is most likely caused by a badly written third party driver
that doesn't unload cleanly and therefore causes the computer to hang.
After you clean installed Win Me, after which program or hardware install
did the problem begin? This will give a possible clue to the driver causing
the problem.
