Help! I am running win 98 and upgraded to win 2000 me. Had
to reformat the hard drive. I am using a maxi gamer video
card 2d/3d card version 2.4. Is there an intenal video card
that I need to uninstall in order to use only this maxi
gamer video card? I have not had a problem with it until
now. Any suggestions would be wonderful. I also downloaded
the latest video driver file from Maxi Gamer for win 2000
me, but it did not seem to help. Thanks Chris

Did you upgrade to both Windows 2000 and ME, or just ME? They are two
completely different operating systems. I can't really answer the second
question because I don't know what kind of computer or motherboard you have.
Some motherboards have built-in video; look on the back and if there is a
VGA connector already there (usually where the second serial port would be)
you have built-in video. There's usually a jumper or setting in the bios to
disable it; check with your computer or motherboard manufacturer. You also
didn't mention what the problem was you are having.

Hey John thanks for responding. I upgraded to Windows Me.
This video card has worked wonderfully well. When I
reinstalled the drivers so that it could work with the
reformat, I started having my computer crash and crazy
colors come on. It continually kicked me into safe mode.
When I called customer support at Guillemot, they had me
remove all the files from the video card and do a fresh
install. Once I did that everything seemed to work for a
while. When I went into system, on the control panel, I was
shocked to find out that there were two video drivers
listed, one is intel and two monitors, one being a default
monitor. I tried to take them both off, but the system did
not like that at all. I then went to the Guillemot site to
download new drivers for win me. Did not work. When I
called Guillemot again, they said that I had an internal
video card that needed to be removed and that this site
found in Microsoft would tell me how to do it. So that is
where I am. My system is extremly unstable with both of
these video cards listed. What is my next step? Where do I
go from here? How do I get rid of the default monitor that
is under system in control panel and just have my computer
list the one display adapter, maxi gamer cougar, and the
one monitor, not the default monitor that win me keeps
trying to find hardware for. Any help would be so
appreciated! Thanks Chris

First you will need to install the drivers for your monitor; you can
probably find them at the manufacturer's web site. When you install them
Windows should detect your monitor properly. The problem with video card
drivers is that sometimes older versions cause conflicts and other problems.
About the only way to prevent this is to do a clean install of Windows,
rather than upgrading over an older version. This means formatting the drive
(erasing everything) and starting fresh with Windows ME and the proper
drivers. Hopefully you won't have to do that, but sometimes it's the only
way. Try installing the drivers for you monitor, remove the two that are
listed in the device manager, and reboot. It should detect one monitor now.

There are different ways to disable an onboard graphics adapter; it just
depends on who made the motherboard. Sometimes it will be a jumper, and
sometimes a setting in the bios. Check your motherboard or computer manual,
or contact the manufacturer to find out how to disable yours.
