2nd request.

The "view log" links on my backups in Server Manager
Console do not work. However, clicking on the "View last
backup" link does. Is there a workaround for this?

I'm suspicious this happened with the upgrade to Manager
Console3 for WSUS3

Thanks

Hello Gerald,

Thanks for posting in our newsgroup.

From your description, I know that the "View Log" link in Server Management
doesn't work. If I am off-base, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Based on my experience, the original NTBACKUP log files will be stored in
the ''C:\Documents and Settings\SBS Backup User\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Windows NT\NTBackup\data'' folder.

Then, the SBS Backup Runner will produce its own customized log in
''C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\Support\Backup
Logs''.

The backup status is a .xml file. When we click ''Backup'' in ''Server
Management'' console, this .xml file will be displayed on the screen.
Although you have deleted the backup log, the "view log" is still existed
in the .xml file. When we try to delete the old backup logs, we need to
also delete the .xml file (the file is c:\program files\Microsoft Windows
Small Business Server\Backup\backup results.xml). SBS server will recreate
a new page without the original log file link after finishing the next
backup task.

Please take the following steps to see if the problem can be resolved:

Step 1: Based on my research, the SBS Backup Runner will produce its own
customized log in ''C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business
Server\Support\Backup Logs''. Please check if all the logs are in the
folder.

Step 2: Open http://SBSServer/backup, click "View Log", will the same issue
occur?

Step 3: Check the IIS setting:

1. Open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
2. Expand to Server'Web Sites'Default Web Sites'Backup.
3. Right click the Backup and select Properties.
4. On the ASP.NET tab, make sure the version is 1.1.4322.

Step 4: Please rerun the backup wizard and try again.

1. Open Server Management and then click Backup.
2. Select Configure Backup and then click Next.
3. Select the location to store the backup file and click Next.
4. Select the date included in the Backup and click Next.
5. Define Backup Schedule and click Next.
6. Configure the Storage Allocation for Deleted Files and E-mail and then
click Next.
7. Click Finish.
8. Now check if the problem will reoccur.

Step 5: If the issue persists, please perform the following steps to
re-install Backup component:

SBS backup is always installed as part of the SBS Server Tools, and it will
not be listed as one of the components in setup. To reinstall the Backup
component:

1. Run the SBS integrated setup by clicking ''Change/Remove'' for the
''Windows Small Business Server 2003'' item in ''Add/Remove Programs''.
2. Select ''Reinstall'' next to ''Server Tools''. Select ''NONE'' next to
''Intranet'', ''Monitoring'', ''Networking'', ''Administration'', and
''Client Deployment''.
3. Reboot when prompted once the installation is finished.

I appreciate your time and cooperation. If anything is unclear, please feel
free to let me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Robert Li(MSFT)

Robert,

You hit upon the problem immediately. The wrong version
of ASP.net was installed for IIS backup. Most IIS
Default Web Sites are using version 2.050727. Are there
any other IIS Sites (Monitoring, Remote, Reporting, that
require the earlier versions of ASP.net besides Backup?

Thank you

Done, but what about sharepoint Web sites?
the links on Server Manager work fine, but the links at
http://myservernamehere/backup still are broken.

Hi Gerald,

Thanks for updaing.

I'd like to give you the following informaton:

Info 1:

All Windows Small Business Server Website and Virtual Directories work only
with .Net Framework 1.1 and are no support with 2.0

- Default website
- Exchange (OWA)
- Remote (RWW)
- ActiveSync
- OMA and all
- Companyweb
- SharePoint Central Administration
- Microsoft SharePoint Administration

Info 2: When installing.NET Framework 2.0 on Windows Small Business Server,
all the websites are automatically switched to use .Net Framework 2.0 which
they are not intended to work with.

Of course, Companyweb uses Framework 1.1.

Hope the information helps.

If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know.

For whatever reason Server Manager IIS does not allow me
to change the asp.net on either Exchange or Microsoft
Sharepoint Admninistration (it is greyed out). I have
reset all of the others.

Also I assume WSUS3 should stay with ASP.net 2 ?

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for your updating. The SBS components only support asp.net 1. That's
by design. Also the asp.net 2 has compatibility problem with SBS components.

For WSUS 3 and asp.net, please see the following:

WSUS 3.0 Server Software Prerequisites:

Windows Server 2003 SP1 or later
IIS 6.0 or later
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0
Microsoft Management Console 3.0
Microsoft Report Viewer
SQL Server 2005 SP1 is optional. Note if a compatible version of SQL Server
is not installed already, WSUS 3.0 will install Windows Internal Database.

Hope the information helps.

Robert, I appreciate your insight. This "automatic switch" happened to me,
and I am attempting to revert all Websites back to .NET 1.1. However, as
Gerald has indicated, my asp.net configuration for Microsoft Sharepoint
Administration has been grayed out as .NET 2.0 (i.e., I can't revert it to
1.1).

Do you know how I can fix this, so that all my websites run 1.1?
Additionally, it appears there is no web.config file for this Sharepoint
Aministration Web Site...I don't know if that is related to the problem.

Do I need to uninstall .NET 2.0? We really want to get our Exchange Server
(and our backup server, which is also not functioning) up and running again.
Any help would be a lifesaver.

you can do it from a cmd prompt navigating to the
framework directory you want and running aspnet_regiis
in that directory (%SystemRoot%\Microsoft.NET\ Framework
\v1.1.4322). I've misplaced the exact command options,
but look here:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/k6h9cz8h
(vs.71).aspx

I must tell you that Microsoft Sharepoint Administration
could remain with ASP.Net 2 as it has its own
Application Pool and if you have upgraded to Sharepoint
Version2 it works fine. You should be able to set
Sharepoint Administration (not Microsoft Sharepoint) to
Asp.net 1 as it is not greyed out.
