Our client is currently using Act v5.04 and needs additional licenses, but no one sells this license any more. We are going to have to upgrade them to Act 2005 Premium for Workgroups, which includes MS SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition.
At the same time, we are planning on moving them from a peer-to-peer network to a MS SBS2K3 server-client network. However, according to the system requirements listed on Act’s product web page, SBS2K3 is not supported. What is the issue here and is there a way around it?
As far as I can see ACT! 2005 Premium for Workgroups will run on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition - and SBS2003 runs on SBS 2003 Standard addition so there should be no problem.
If you're going to be running SBS 2003 Premium, I'd install the SQL Server provided -before- installing ACT as their instance of SQL Server appears to be a special "Crimped" Version as you'd need to configure and name it separately to the SBS SQL Server.
Your best information on this of course should come from ACT themselves.

I agree with you, Henry, but then why on this page: http://itdomino.act.com/act.nsf/docid/20031010112629 do they specifically say that Act 2005 is not supported on SBS 2003 (as well as Citrix and Term Servers)?

Didn't find that.... curious. Wonder if they'd support it on SBS2000 ( Windows 2000 Server ) ?
Find it hard imagine what -technically- would cause it, but I can imagine that they may not want to "Helpdesk" Support those platforms due to the complexity. ...although, { thinks } there may be issues with the way they install/use the SQL Server Instance - They do say it's a special version of SQL Server for the specific use of ACT only.
Perhaps the OP should get a Demo Version of SBS2K3 and of ACT2005/WG and test before deployment.- It would pay the OP's Client to support some if not all the cost of doing that.

Thanks for your input gentleman. I'd like to keep this discussion open however. If anyone from either technical team has any input or if someone else has gone down this road, successful or otherwise, I'd like to hear from them.
I've also posted this same question in Act's discussion group. You can follow the thread at: http://webx.act.com/WebX...@148.VKf5aoUtfet.23214@.eea19e8/0

According to a reply on the Act discussion group, "The only issue is SBS SQL 'does not support' SP3, which you need to run ATC2005 Prem."
I don't quite follow this. I searched the MS site but couldn't find anything regarding the service pack and problems with SBS2K. I see there's a SP3a for SQL Server. I wonder if there's a problem with this one as well.

Tell them there's no problem with SQL SP3. We all have SQL SP3/Sp3a installed on our SBS servers. And if they say that there's a problem, please have them identify the source of their information.
