Hi

I have had this issue three times now (twice on one server) and it is
bugging me. After I downloaded the SP1 Files from Microsoft, I Attempted to
Update my SBS Premuim box to SP1. The Following Error was seen (See attached
LOG)

I was able to make the server good again by Applying SQL SP3 (over the top
of SP4) and then Install the Premium Services Disk (ISA2000) then applying
SBS Standard SP1 (No SQL SP4 or ISA2004)

Because I though I was Thick, I Oredered the SBS Premium SP1 CD-ROM Media (3
Disks) and went through the process again, This time on 2 x Seperate Servers.

I Still get the same result. Everything appers to install correctly, However
the CEICW will not execute and fails on the NIC (Which BTW is an IBM GB NIC
on the HCL)

Please Help as I do not wish to backout ISA2004 again on 2 Servers ......

Thanks - Sort Of

They were the first port of call. So Far it appears that I know more about
the Product and Error than they do.

I do hop to talk to a Tech with some product knowledge shortly - Otherwise I
will have to do the 'Microsoft' Standard Tech Response, and ReInstall the
Servers in Question ..........

Hi Tony,

If you have a case number, please forward that to me so I can try to make
sure the right people are getting involved. You can email it to my private
address, take out the obvious no spam part between the dots.

Just a guess but is the driver for the NIC up to date? Maybe an updated
driver will work with SP1 correctly....

No Rick, that hasn't got anything to do with it. Mariette got that same
error on a clients server, we have had a poster in our forum with that error
and there has been another poster in this newsgroup earlier that remained
unresolved. This MS PSS stuff.

Hi,
I was one of the people that had this problem, and had a post about it. For
whatever reason it would give me this exact error when i used the onboard
intel nic. I used this nic for the internal network. For the external i use a
3com gigabit nic. So i tried a clean installation 12 times and it would
always give me the same error. I disabled the onboard intel nic and used a
3com 10/100 mb nic for my external connection and the 3com gigabit nic for my
internal network. Worked all three time that i tried it. No problems with the
service packs or isa 2004. The only difference with my installations was the
CEICW would work without isa installed and it would work with isa 2000
installed, but NOT with isa 2004 installed. (either upgrade from isa 2000 or
clean install of isa 2004). I tried all different kind of drives but it would
not change anything. I hope this helps somehow. My server has been working
with no errors for about 3 days now. If you have any other questions please
let me know.
SBS premium sp1, exchange sp1, sql 2000 sp4, sharepoint sp2 upgraded to full
sql database sp4, and isa 2004 sp1.
Thank you for all your help.

Peter.

Hi Peter

You may be on to something. The SBS Server concerned is using an IBM
Broadcom GB NIC for LAN and a 3Com 905C for Primary External NIC.

HOWEVER the Server MainBoard has an Integrated Intel 10/100 NIC that is only
used as a Backup External NIC. (Thats Right 3 NIC's)

I Might Try Disabling this NIC in the BIOS and Trying Again.

Hey Tony,
My board is a supermicro X5DA8 and the nic is an IntelĀ® 82545EM Gigabit
Ethernet Port. Very solid board. So maybe it is the intel nics?

Peter.

OK

The Wonderful Team here in the NEWSGROUP sent me an E-Mail Overnight. There
is a WorkAround for this Issue and I am posting it here so others who have
this issue can find it ......

The workaround is the following steps:

Open the Server Management Console.
Select "Security Groups".
Find the "Internet Users" security group and double-click it.
Modify the "Pre-Windows 2000 name" to be: "SBS Internet Users".
Rerun CEICW.

I Hope this helps others
