After reviewing all of the postings for companyweb in SBS 2003 I have still
not come up with any definitive answers so here is yet another companyweb
problem.

We are running SBS 2003 Standard Edition. And XP Pro on clients, I can not
get Companyweb working on any computer. All updates have been installed for
server, workstations are pointing to the Internal IP address of server,
Website is not “Stopped”, I can get Welcome to Windows Small Business Server
2003 page on client if I enter http://servername in IE but still cannot
access companyweb from there, I can ping companyweb from client and server,
but when I try to log on to http://companyweb from either I get the following
message:

You are not authorized to view this page
You might not have permission to view this directory or page using the
credentials you supplied.
If you believe you should be able to view this directory or page, please try
to contact the Web site by using any e-mail address or phone number that may
be listed on the companyweb home page.
You can click Search to look for information on the Internet.

HTTP Error 403 - Forbidden
Internet Explorer

When I go through SMC, and click on Internal Web Site and try to Manage
Access, or Change Name, or Change home page layout, I get the following
Message:

Server Error in ‘/’ Application.

The resource cannot be found.

Description: HTTP 404. The Resource you are looking for (or one of its
dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is
temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that
it is spelled correctly.

Requested Url: /_layouts/1033/user.aspx

Or some other URL

Before I successfully added users and computers through the wizards, I was
able to access the http://companyweb/default.aspx from the server with no
problem, but the error I got from the client was different saying it could
not find companyweb, or was not available.
Short of removing and installing SharePoint Services companyweb web site,
(http://support.microsoft.com/?id=829114) is there anything else I can do
about this before I try the afore mentioned suggestion?

Thank you in advance

You receive a "Server Error in '/' Application. Access to the path
<path> is denied" error message when you log on to Windows SharePoint
Services:

Check the permissions?

Hi,

Can you post the ipconfig/all from the server and a client? Does the
companyweb work on the server?

Hi,

The servernics have to be in a different IP range.
And delete that TCP/IP 6 stuff, you don't need it and it is screwing up the
ipconfig.
The clients are getting the wrong information.

Hi,

If you don't have DHCP, then you haven't followed the SBS setup, did you?
Install from add/remove programs, windows components.

You must have added that IPv6 stuff yourself, it doesn't get there
automatically. Check in the nic properties.

"If you don't have DHCP, then you haven't followed the SBS setup, did you?"
To the best of my knowledge I followed the SBS setup to the letter, not sure
why DHCP didn't show up....
I did go back and install it though, through add/remove programs, windows
components. and I'm not entirely sure I did it correctly.

I don't know what you see when you say "IPv6 stuff" not sure what you are
talking about.

Please be patient with me. a networker I am not, but the only one here to do
it.
Thank you

Hi,

Maybe you should consider a scratch reinstall and follow the defaults when
installing. Or maybe you should consider hiring someone to do it for you.

To get rid of that IPv6 is not that easy. It took me 1 hour to completely
remove it from a workstation on which it was installed and I had to go
through the registry for it as well.

You will first need to fix your network settings, before trying anything
else. If you have 2 nics in the server, they should be in different IP
ranges. Do you have Standard or Premium?

Standard,
I have one NIC card but 2 lines one for the internet and the other for
network.
both run through a switch.

diagram as follows:

Internet -> Router/DSL modem -> Switch -> Server & Clients

I was hoping I wouldn't need to do another Scratch reinstall. I can't hire
anyone we don't make that much here.

I do apreciate your help.

This is the diagram I use.
http://www.smallbizserver.net/Default.aspx?tabid=52

Note that the dsl/modem/router goes to a nic which I always rename
External. The internal nic connects to the nework switch. You can play
some games if you do not have the ideal cabling but ideally you still
use both nics which are on different ip networks. I use 192.168.16.x
for my internal. 192.168.1.x or 192.168.0.x for my external.

That IP6 stuff has caused me some grief a few times. That is the first
thng I try to remove if I see it on a workstation. Apparantly it does
not bother other techs as much.

my company does not want the server set up that way, therefore, I have it set
on the switch like the rest of the computers and everything I have read about
SBS 2003 it should work that way.

I tried to change the internal 192.168.16.x so they would be on different ip
networks but when I tried that I got an error message saying it would not
work if I did. so I didn't change it.

That IP6 stuff, I still don't know what you are looking at to know that it
is on there, and two, how to remove it.

Thank you for the help.

I think I am going to reinstall SBS 2003 in the morning, sorry I troubled all
of you with this.
My version is an OEM version, and I'm not sure It was installed correctly to
begin with. So I am going to redo it all "by the Book", because I think it
was done wrong the first time. Please forgive me for bothering you all. and
thank you for all of your help.

Hi KB,

You know, you have made a very wise decision. And make an even better one
and stick 2 nics in that baby and follow the diagram for the setup.
Reinstall totally from scratch by booting from CD. Create a partition and
let it install the first part of W2k3 server. Than when it has booted and
you see the 'Continue setup' icon, create your other partitions and format
them. Then continue the setup and take the defaults.
Come back when you have problems.

Hi KB (and everyone else with blank companyweb problems)..!!!!

Now I dont know if this will help, but I had similar problems to you with
regards to the "Server Error in '/' Application" error and also my
companyweb was empty.

I only have 1 NIC so I am not too sure if this may apply. But I read
everything in here about companyweb and came in today to see if I could fix
it - and I did.

Basically, the first thing I thought I would do was to check my CEICW
settings on the server, and found that I had only enabled OWA and RWW (and I
have no idea when I set that up) - if you select all the other options and
reboot - it may resolve your problem.

I thought I would spend at least 5-6 hours trying to resolve this issue -
now I can spend the time playing with everything on it - its sooo cool..!

I hope this may help you or anyone else reading this.

A HUGE thanks to all the posters here, without the vast amount of responses
you have given everyone, I would not have been able to accomplish what I
have.

Ken.

Thanks Ken. But I am re installing SBS 2003, the right way this time. As it
turns out it was infact installed improperly, before I even got into it. Also
the domain and the workgroup were named the same, so we had major confilicts
there too. If I have any more trouble I will be back. :o)
