Thank you for posting to the SBS Newsgroup.
I am sorry for the delayed response due to weekend. Please understand that
the newsgroups are staffed weekdays by Microsoft Support professionals to
answer your systems and applications questions. Your understanding is
greatly appreciated!
I understand that when you running connectcomputer wizard on client
workstation, you received an error message then failed the join domain. If
I have misunderstood your issue, please let me know.
To troubleshoot this issue, I would like to check the following settings on
your server and problematic workstation.
1> IP configuration:
On SBS server:
External NIC:
IP: Assigned by your ISP or your hardware router
Gateway: Your ISP or your Hardware router IP
DNS: SBS INTERNAL NIC IP as the only entry
Internal NIC:
IP: Fixed IP
Gateway: None
DNS: SBS INTERNAL NIC IP as the only entry
On workstation:
IP: Assigned by DHCP on SBS
Gateway: SBS internal NIC IP
DNS: SBS INTERNAL NIC IP as the only entry
2> Can you ping the SBS server netbios name, DNS domain name from the
problematic workstation?
3> Go to Server, Start -> Programs -> Administrative Tools -> DNS. Please
confirm _msdcs.domain.local zone is in the DNS forward lookup zone.
By default, SBS DNS Forward Lookup zone contains _msdcs.domain.local and
domain.local. Recreate the _msdcs.domain.local zone if it is missing:
a. Right-click Forward Lookup Zones in DNS and select New Zone.
b. Specify Primary Zone, and use _msdcs.domain.local as the Zone name.
c. Stop Netlogon and DNS service.
d. Rename %windir%\system32\config\netlogon.dns and netlogon.dnb
e. Start Netlogon and DNS service
f. ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns
g. Close and reopen the DNS snap-in.
h. Verify _msdcs.domain.local contains dc, domains, gc, and pdc.
4> Rerun CEICW. Please refer to the following KB article for detailed
steps:
How to configure Internet access in Windows Small Business Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?id=825763
If the issue persists, and due to this issue can be caused by many factors,
please help to gather the following information.
1. Please explain in detail what "another user installed called
_sbs_2003Setup and is password protected" Means.
2. Please type the full content of the error message you received to the
Newsgroup. I need the exact error message for research.
3. Collect and paste the full content of the following log files to the
Newsgroup:
a. SBSNetSetup.log: %systemroot%\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small
Business Server\Clients on the problematic client workstation to the
Newsgroup.
b. NetSetup.log: %windir%\debug on the problematic client workstation.
c. SBSMSI-ClientSetup.log: %systemroot%\Program Files\Microsoft
Integration\Windows Small Business Server 2003\Logs on the server.
4. Just a double check, does the problem only occur when trying to get this
particular computer to the domain? Can it be reproduced on every client
computer?
5. Will it make difference if we try to use a different domain user to map?
I need to know whether you use Add User Wizard (Server Management\Standard
Management\Users) to create a new user and use this user to add the client
workstation.
6. Does this computer have a same workgroup name as the domain? If so,
change it first.
7. Do you already have a computer object named the same as what you are
going to use for this computer? If so, use a different computer name and
try again.
8. Has this computer ever joined domain before? Does manually joining it to
the domain successful?
I am greatly appreciated your time and cooperation. If anything is unclear,
please feel free to let me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you!
Best regards,
Brandy Nee

Thank you for posting to the SBS Newsgroup.
The _SBS_NetSetup_ account was created by the Network Configuration Wizard.
It is a client local account and AutoLogon is set to use this account to
log on to the computer during the network configuration.
I suggest you that rejoin the problematic client workstation into SBS
domain. To do so, please see:
1. On the problematic client workstation, right click My Computer, go to
Properties, Computer Name tab, and click Change.
2. Select Workgroup to manually move your client workstation off the SBS
domain.
3. Click OK twice.
4. Log off and log on using its local administrator account.
5. Open IE, type http://servername/connectcomputer.
6. Follow the wizard to finish, and see whether this issue will occurs
again.
I am appreciated your time and cooperation, and am looking forward to your
reply!
Best regards,
Brandy Nee

Thank you for posting back!
I need to know whether you have the local administrator account on the
problematic client workstation. The _sbs_netsetup_ account is just a
temporary use, once the client workstation successfully joins the domain,
this account will be deleted. I still suggest you that perform my steps in
the previous reply.
1. Log in the Client workstation as Local administrator account. Right
click My Computer, go to Properties, Computer Name tab, and click Change.
[Note]: If you do not have the Local administrator account, please log in a
domain user account, then you can control the local administrator account.
2. Select Workgroup to manually move your client workstation off the SBS
domain.
3. Click OK twice.
4. Log off and log on using its local administrator account.
5. Open IE, type http://servername/connectcomputer.
6. Follow the wizard to finish, and see whether this issue will occurs
again.
Hope this information helps. I am looking forward to your reply!
