For the second time now my server has locked up due to an Exchange LDAP
issue, and when it has come back online after rebooting, it loses the 10
additional licenses that I had installed on it.

I've never seen license information being lost before.

Any ideas on where to look.

Error log doesn't show anything.

Hi Andrew,

Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup.

According to your post, I understand that the SBS2003 CALs disappear. If I
have misunderstood your concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know.

There are many reasons could cause license store checking to fail, most
commonly memory allocation failures, AD accessing failure, etc. Please
check if the following KB article is help:

888818 The number of Client Access Licenses may be reset to 5 in Windows
Small
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=888818

Also it may be caused by some real time AV because they are scanning *.cpa,
*.cpl and *.lls files. Besides the culprit I listed above, in addition,
there is another issue for this error:

One of the dependant files get unregistered. Some 3rd party apps can cause
these libraries (licdll.dll) to be unregistered. You need to re-register
licdll.dll (C:\WINDOWS\system32) to fix it: regsvr32 licdll.dll.

Note: If re-registering DLL works, according to KB 329261, one possible
reason is if XP-AntiSpy is installed on the box. It unregisters licdll.dll:

For licensing questions, I also recommend you call 1-800-426-9400 (select
option 4), Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (PST) to speak
directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist.

Worldwide customers can use the Guide to Worldwide Microsoft Licensing
