Did the first and, IMHO, the best diagnostic test:
Start | Run | Cmd | nslookup companyweb
Result: companyweb could not be found, nor could a number of other simple
aliases. However, zones implemented for various websites I support locally
worked fine.
Ai'nt no way IE is going thos see http://companyweb if the PC can't get the
DNS to resolve it.
So I started conparing IPCONFIG /ALL with working PC's.
1) Didn't see a WINS service on the failing machine, but did on the working.
(This should have nothing to do with the issue, and it didn't fix anything.)
2) Noticed that the Primary DNS suffix was missing on the failing computer.
Fixed in the More button of computer name tab of My Computer properties. (or
something like that:-))))
SUCCESS.
So the moral of the story is to make sure that
1) NSLOOKUP companyweb works
2) If not then search for discrepancies.
