Hi there,
This is a recent install, about 10 users. Shortly after I got the
system running, the NIC on the motherboard started fritzing out. I had
used it as the internal NIC during the setup process, and after I
disabled it in the bios & removed all references to it in the device
manager, I replaced it with a new Linksys NIC. I assigned all the same
IP, dns, etc settings to the new NIC, and the network FUNCTIONS
correctly, but I can't get the CEICW wizard to run. It always fails at
the part about configuring the firewall.

Here is a snippet from the only log file that I see being modified:
icwlog.txt from the "program files\microsoft small business
server\support" folder.

Hi,

Thanks for using the SBS newsgroup.

From your description, I understand the issue is that the CEICW wizard
failed with error message when configuring firewall after you changed
network adapter. If I am off base, please don't hesitate to let me know.

From the error message"
Calling Get Private NIC Info (0x80070490).

Error 0x80070490 returned from call to CRFireCommit::Commit()"

This indicates that the wizard failed when trying to read the private NIC
GUID. Based on the error log, we need to check if the contents in the
following registry keys are valid:

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer\Connectivity\ICW"

Note: Especially the Last_1st_Nic_Guid & Last_2nd_Nic_Guid

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Inter
face"

Please also ensure there is not duplicated above registry keys in registry
Editor.

Generally, if the Last_1st_Nic_Guid & Last_2nd_Nic_Guid does not match the
interface GUID under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interf
ace, this issue will occur. If the Last_1st_Nic_Guid and Last_2nd_Nic_Guid
are listing the incorrect adapters, you can use the following steps to
modify the registry values to present the correct adapters:

Note: The steps are listed in 'Method 3' in KB '875422 "The wizard cannot
set the DHCP scope options" error message when you -
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=875422'.

1. Click "Start", click "Run", type "regedit", and then click "OK".

2. Locate the following registry subkey, where <{GUID}> is the ID of the
LAN network card:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interf
aces\{GUID}

NOTE: We can review the "DhcpIPAddress" or "IPAddress" registry entries to
determine the correct GUID for the LAN adapter, and then note the GUID.
Make a note of the external network adapter GUID also.

3. Locate the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer

4. In the "SmallBusinessServer" subkey, make sure that the value of the
"LANNIC" entry is the GUID of the LAN adapter that you noted in step 2.

5. Locate the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer\Connectivity\ICW

6. In the "ICW" subkey, set the value of the "Last_1st_Nic_Guid" entry to
the LAN adapter GUID that you noted in step 2, and then set the value of
the "Last_2nd_Nic_Guid" entry to the external network adapter GUID that you
noted in step 2.

7. Quit Registry, re-run the CEICW and see if the issue persists.

If you cannot determine it, please do the following and provide me with the
log files. I will help you have a check. To do so:

1. Open Registry Editor by clicking Start -> Run, type REGEDIT and click OK.

2. Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer\Connectivity\ICW

3. Right click the ICW key, select Export, save it as .reg file.

4. Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interf
ace

5. Right click the Interface key, select Export, save it as .reg file.

6. Rename the two .reg files to .old and email them to me.

Please compress all files and send to my working mailbox:
v-ya...@microsoft.com

I appreciate your time. I am happy to be of assistance to you and look
forward to your reply.

Have a nice day!

Sincerely,

Jenny Wu
