I am having trouble adding a computer the domain. I use the Server
Management to add the computer, tell it to install the applications, etc,
that all works fine. I go to the computer. It obtains an IP from the DHCP no
problem, it can browse the web too. I attempt to add the computer to the
domain. I go to http://mycompany/connectcomputer, it prompts for username
and pwd. So far so good, I get through the prompts, the wizard completes,
but at that point it says:

"An error occured when configuring network settings. Contact your network
administrator."

What am I doing wrong? I am a newbie to SBS I appreciate anyone's help.
Thanks

-Matt

Could you post back SBSNetsetup.log from Program Files\Microsoft Windows
Small Business Server\Clients? The file is located at the client.
Meanwhile, could you verify File and Printer Sharing is enabled at the
server's LAN card.

If you use another workstation and use ConnectComputer to join the machine
to the domain, same problem?

Here is my SBSNetsetup.log:

CheckPreInstall() -- TS/DC/SBS check failed -- exiting

-- Starting SBS Net Setup --
CheckPreInstall() -- TS/DC/SBS check failed -- exiting

I have tried 2 workstations (One Win2K SP4, One Win2k no service packs),
both with same result.

Please note that I am using a trial version of SBS 2003, although I would
think this has nothing to do with it...

Upon checking File and Print sharing...it was unchecked.

Thanks for the help. It was the file and print sharing being disabled.

Do you remember how File and Printer Sharing got disabled at the network
card?

Did you swap the LAN and WAN card during installation? Or you manually
disable File and Printer Sharing?

I suppose you enable File and Printer Sharing at the server? Or at the
server and at the client?

I remember reading that SBS 2003 disables many, many items for security
purposes. My server has two NICs, and I am trying different configurations
(before purchasing the software). One setup included using the server as a
firewall. This is possibly when it happened (File and Print Sharing disabled
at firewall). The workstation's NIC card is normal with File and Print
sharing enabled by default.

Now I have new problems to tackle. One is that the Client Configurator just
crashed a workstation trying to install SP4...

SBS setup will not disable File and Printer Sharing at the LAN card. If you
disable that on the LAN card, nobody can connect to the server for file and
printer sharing.

For your client problem, you may want to logon locally to the workstation
first, manually apply the service. Then logon to the domain and see if that
help or not.

Same problem as described by Greg.
I could manually add the client pc to the domain, local
shares work fine, but I need to migrate local user profile
on the clients to domain profiles.
If there's a workaround (bypassing the Computerconnect
method), please advice.
