Does anyone know how to turn on the hardware compression, or modify
other settings, when using sbs backup?
Or do I just use NTBackup?
Our customer is using a Sony AIT drive on an w2k3 sbs server, and
doesn't want to spend more money on backup software ...
Thx

Thank you for posting!
According to your post, I understand that you want to know whether NTbackup
support hardware compression.
Based on my research, NTBackup doesn't provide software compression. It
only supports it if the hardware does. NTbacup just feeds data to your tape
device, and the compression is done by the device itself if it is available.
Please make sure the compression is also enabled for the hardware. (Note:
generally you may check the hardware itself or through some form of
software management tool it might provide. You may contact the manufacturer
to check it.). NTBackup won't enable or disable the compression of the
hardware. Please use a new tape and launch the NTBACKUP wizard manually.
During the backup process, please click the Advanced button and select the
"Use hardware compression, if available" option.
Also, pleaes ensure that your tape drive device is in our Windows Catalog
and HCL. Please refer to:

I hope this helps. Thanks and have a great day!
