I have a situation that is forcing me to stop using Folder Redirection
on the remote site due to poor performance, mostly slowness. I, on the
other hand have set up a laptop to use offline files on the same domain.
At this point it seems to me that offline files will be the best option
here. The domain consist of an SBS2008 Premium with a remote Standard
Server domain controller. The site to site is using a Sonicwall
appliance. I love using FR, but cannot sacrifice performance and will
hate to think that it was only meant to be used for authentication
purposes. Any ideas? Thank you for your input.

How about if you redirect the remote users' folders to a share on the server
at their location? If you look at the GPO that controls redirection, you'll
see that there are two options. Basic redirects everyone's folders to the
same location, while Advanced lets you control the location based on
security groups. All you'd have to do is to switch the policy to use
Advanced, and set the options accordingly.

The only possible objection to this that comes right to mind is if you don't
have sufficient backup at the remote location, but IMO it might be better to
deal with that than to suffer with performance issues as you are currently.

If you do change the GPO, please note the current settings and test
thoroughly in case you get an unwelcome surprise for any reason. I wouldn't
anticipate that, though - the settings are pretty straight forward.
