Can anyone tell me whether there is any limitations with the SQL-Server 2000
that comes with the Premium Edition of SBS 2003?

Is it a full blown copy?

Thanks

James E

No it is not full blown.
It is there to handle data settings for SBS. I upgraded to SQL 2000 without
a problem..

Thanks Robert, so is there no Enterprise Manager, SQL Query Analyser????

Why then do they say the Premium Edition includes SQL-Server 2000. Surely
that is not right???

James,

The SQL Server 2000 included with SBS 2003 Premium Edition (on the Premium
Technologies cd) has essentially the same limitations as SQL Server 2000
Standard Edition with the additional limitation that it can only be
installed on the SBS 2003 server itself. On the other hand, the SQL Server
included with Premium edition can be installed as a default instance on the
SBS server, as well as, you can upgrade the SharePoint (WMSDE) instance to
full SQL Server as well to enable full-text search abilities in WSS.

Check out the premiuminstallsteps.htm in the root directory of the Premium
Technologies cd for the steps.

James,

One other thing to add to that is that the SQL CAL licensing for the SQL
Server included in SBS 2003 Premium Edition is handled with the use of the
SBS 2003 CALs.. Which would limit the SQL to a max of 75 users or devices
for authenticated access.

Q. Does Windows Small Business Server 2003 include SQL Server or
Microsoft ISA Server?

A. Windows Small Business Server 2003 Premium Edition includes SQL
Server 2000 (with Service Pack 3) and Microsoft ISA Server 2000 (with
Service Pack 1). The standard edition does not. For more information about
the offerings of both the standard edition and the premium edition, see the
Product Overview for Windows Small Business Server 2003.

Q. Is it possible to install the server applications included with
Windows Small Business Server 2003 on a different computer running Windows
Server? For example, I want to run SQL Server on the computer running
Windows Small Business Server 2003, but I want to run Exchange Server 2003
on a different computer.

A. No. The server applications that come with the product must be
installed on the same physical machine, if they are installed at all. The
only exception is that FrontPage 2003, which is included with the premium
edition, may be installed on a single client computer in the Windows Small
Business Server 2003 network.

Q. Does the Windows Small Business Server 2003 CAL allow me to access
other Exchange or SQL servers on the network?

A. The Windows Small Business Server 2003 CAL only covers you for the
single Windows Small Business Server server and any additional Windows
Server System servers. Additional CALs will be required for Exchange,
terminal server, or SQL servers in the network.

Q. Can I use the SQL Server component for Web-based business
applications?

A. Yes, new with Windows Small Business Server 2003 is the ability for
you to use the SQL Server component for an unlimited number of
un-authenticated users. As long as you are un-authenticated, you also do not
need a Windows Small Business Server 2003 CAL.

David,
that answers all my questions perfectly and has convinced me that SBS2003

Robert is mistaken.

SBS 2003 Premium comes with a Full Version of SQL Server Std. licensed
for up to 2 physical CPUs and to backend data on a public website.

SBS 2003 Standard includes 2 special instances of MSDE for Reporting and
for Sharepoint which can be updated to the Full SQL server database when
it is installed as part of the Premium ( or FPP ) Install.
