My Server is not anymore seen on network plese help ?

Dear all,

I have an SBS 2003 server which was working ok since a long time and sudenly
after a reboot , my client computer cannot detect my server DHCP.
I have noticed that mu FAI router as been updated and that DHCP has been set
to default value, so I wen to my router setting and desable DHCP mode.

Since that time without changing any setting on my server itself, my server
is not anymore visible from network and client are not able to receive IP
adress from my SBS 2003 DHCP address.

I have made following test :
On one of my client computer I have set manuall the IP adress that my server
is suppose to deliver, then I try to ping my server adress from my client
machine but no luck ping fails.

What can I check else, I am out of idea ?
Does the fact of having 2 DHCP at a certain time has made some messy things ?

SBS will shut down its own DHCP service if it sees another DHCP on the
network. Re-run CEICW to allow the SBS 2003 server to act as the DHCP
server for the network.

after running the wizard client seems to get the dhcp setting from server
but I am not really sure because I a not able to ping the ip adress of my
server from client computer even by name.

but from my server I cqn ping my client either by name or ip adress.
So I guess somthing still wrong as it work only from server to client but
reverse fails

any idea is welcome I am lost...

Please post the results of an ipconfig /all for the sbs server.

Also, run a scan with the SBS 2003 BPA to see if it can find any problems:

As Merv's said, if SBS detects another DHCP server, it shuts down.

To my way of thinking, you could probably fix it by just restarting the
DHCP service, or just reboot the Server and it'll run again.

Double-check that your router DHCP is not running.

And also what Merv said, if problems continue... post an ipconfig /all
from the server and a workstation.

It is in french but I have translate main points. As you can see the DHCP is
still not activated and can not find out from where I should activated: I
have run many times the wizard...

In the ipconfig result, DHCP should NOT be enabled on the server NIC (you

Here is my latest test

If I set my client PC using DHCP; it recieve private adress as it can cannot
get it from DHCP server
If I set my client PC manually the suppose adress to access my server as :

IP : 196.168.1.110
255.255.255.0
Gateway : 192.168.1.102 (my server IP)

Then aith this I cannot ping my server but I can ping my router at 192.168.1.1
From my server side I can ping my client PC

I run out of idea

Yes DNCP service is running on sbs side, I have even try to retstart it many
time.
As the ping is woriking only from server to client but not form client to
server, could it be a Firewall issue on SBS server which could block incoming
DHCP requets from client machine because I have 2 client laptop which are not
anymore recivig the IP from DHCP server so in my mind in it not a problem on
client computer but more on sbs side, and the last thing that come to my mind
is Firewall incoming request which might be blocked somehow.

What do you thing ?

Any errors in the server's event logs?

Disable or uninstall any antivirus software on the client workstations.
Then reboot the workstations and make sure the antivirus software is still
disabled and see if they get an IP address from the SBS server.

I have set this setting manually becasue as DHCP is not detected my machine

Set the workstation back to getting an IP address automatically, and then
post an ipconfig /all for that workstation. The fact that it might be
getting a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0 (rather than 255.255.255.0) may be
significant. What is the subnet mask of your router? (is it 255.255.0.0)?

Do you have any other routers, Wireless Access Points or servers on the
network? Do you have any workstation that might have ICS (Internet
Connection Sharing) turned on?

It appears your workstation is a laptop. Use a wired ( not wireless)
connection to check out the DHCP. In fact, disable the wireless NIC in your
laptop until you have the DHCP problem resolved.

I solved it but do not know the reason:
By chance I get qn error when trying to accces my firewall setting and was
complening about a driver IpNat.sys

Then I desable adress translation in device manager and then my dhcp works
again.
For some reason something activate that driver and blok dhcp but I am not
explaining anything.

So it works now but would like to understand
