I have downloaded the evaluation windows 2003 server to look at before I
buy.

I have gotten the server all up (I think) except for I cannot get teh
network card to talk to the rest of my computers. I cannot ping anything
nor even see the computer win the network neiborhood on itself.

The network card shows it is connected, I have tried 3 different cards and I
have tried the cable on different computers.

when I go into the network connections the first page which gives you the
information and statistics even after serveral attempted pings to computers
on my network. I get 0 packets sent and 0 packets recieved.

do i have to turn on the network card some how.

any help would be appreciated.

posting the result of ipconfig /all here may help.

Try pinging 127.0.0.1 that is the loopback address if you cannot ping and
get a response then something is wrong with the NIC card. If it pings ok,
then try an ipconfig and ping your own ip address. Then try pinging the
gateway, dns server, then an external ip address

it could be the hardware settings. do you have a switch? also check the NIC
settings.
