Hi

We have ML350 G4 windows 2003 storage server with SP1. it has 4GB of RAM and
RAID 1 & 5 configured.

We are having a problem on this server hanging from very beginning and HP
support has changed motherboard, RAM still hanging(we can not really say when
this server hangs mostly when we needed most). We did test with HP's test
software and doesn't show any error on hardware. As this is our main file
server we thought we restart (scheduled) server every morning this will go
away but no success.

We were wondering if any one could suggest what we can do here. We have
latest drivers from HP installed.

Thank you in advance

Do you get any event log messages prior to a hang? It would be one of
the first things I'd check.

If the server hangs in Windows (no BSOD, or spontanious reset), it
might also be an idea to open the task manager, sort it by which
process uses processor speed. This way, if the server hangs the process
which is using the most processor time should be on top. It should at
least give you some clues on what's happening.

we can,t do anything with server apart from manaully powering off and
powering on. we mean even if we press cntrl ALT Del it doesn't do any thing,
we just gets green screen(not blue screen).

But when we check log after restart we get following event log some time only

Unexpected Exception pid=769 cid=0xeb8.0xebc code=0xc0000028 fc=0 (Event
ID:-1017 & Source :- Interix)

also more often

Could not connect to Mapping Server at host localhost:while connecting :
RPC: Port mapper failure - RPC: Unable to receive (Event ID:- 1014 & Source:-
Interix)

When we chacked our old log we found following error (only on that single
day) since that day we have never got that error again...

An I/O operation initiated by the Registry failed unrecoverably. The
Registry could not read in, or write out, or flush, one of the files that
contain the system's image of the Registry. (Event ID:- 333 & Source :-
Application Popup)

We try searching what is these messages means but we couldn't find any
answer. if you could help us that will be great.

Thank you

Hi Ashok,

After a quick scoop around the web I'd give the following things a
shot:

The first two errors are both related to an application called Interix.
For the sake of the server I would try removing that application.

A bit more of a longshot, the registry error gave me the following hint
on eventid.net:

http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=333&eventno=5757&source=Application%20Popup&phase=1

Let me know if either of these links are of use for you.

thanks Jaap

We also try finding which application that is actually generating that error
but we do not know which application is that. We have just installed
application that comes with server apart from that we just have Veritas
remote backup installed. do you have any idea which application that might be
causing this error pop up?

With other error may be because we also connect to this server through
remote desktop to manage remotely.

But do you thing these error may be the cause of server hanging?

Thank you

I had the same problem. I removed the second processor. Never had a
problem since.

Hi Steve

Does it mean that you also had same sort of HP Server with windows 2003
server and hanging without any reason?

So you are running your server with single CPU for now?

Thank you
