i've noticed that all HBO shows do this now.
I can no longer record anything from them.
it's a sad sad day when this started happening!

Murph

any hacks or workarounds on this would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like your DRM store might be botched.

If that is the case, try resetting it by following every step of these
instructions.

To fix it, follow these steps.

1. Goto your command prompt (Start, Run and type CMD) and enter the command
'net stop ehRecvr'
2. Close all your applications that might be accessing anything DRM related
(Media Player and the like)
3. Delete all the files within this directory "C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\DRM" (Note that the Windows Media DRM folder is a hidden system
folder., so you may need to change your settings to allow hidden folders to
be shown) (if you cannot delete the files, reboot and start over)
4. Individualize the Windows Media DRM system by going to this link -
http://go.microsoft.com/FWLink?LinkID=34506 (make sure you go through the
upgrade button)
5. Install the Media Player update so that subsequent media related installs
don't trample over your DRM -
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=295F822B-957F-408E-88BA-1510F481BF9A
(this step is important)

That should fix the issue for all your future recordings so you don't run
into this issue again.

Thanks for your reply Jason, the instructions you have given to restore the
DRM are invaluable, and I have been using them for several months now. But,
the problem I'm having is that this DRM issue keeps popping up out of the
blue for no reason. I'm curious to know if this problem is isolated to my
system, or if its a defect in MCE and happening to others.

Are you installing apps that alter Media Player in any way?

That was one of the causes of the DRM getting screwed up. The instructions
my brother gave should prevent that (as long as each step is done
completely/correctly).

Yeah, what my brother said..

If you are following these instructions and the problem persists, is there
something in particular that you are doing just prior to it breaking?
