Hey any Ideas on this one? I have the following

Sony VGC-RA810G with Radeon X600 with 128mb video RAM with DVI, RGB/VGA and
Composite outputs

TV is Panasonic PT-50LC14 50" LCD with DVI in, RGB in, Component in, S-Video
in, HDMI-HDCP, Coax in etc..

when connecting my MCE via DVI I cannot set resolution above 640x480 and low
color...
any ideas why?

when connected via RGB I can set to a comfortable 1024x768 true color or
above but this is a good setting and it looks good, just curious about the
DVI output..

the TV specs are:

Resolution-1280x720
HD compatibiltiy-480p/720p/1080i
pc display capability-VGA, SVGA, XGA

thx

Derrick

Check your Sony users manual to find out what resolutions it will accept
over DVI. The DVI receiver chips used in TVs are not the same as the ones
used in PC monitors and usually only accept a few resoutions such as 480i,
480p, 720p and 1080i or some subset of these 4. Suggest you try 720p and/or
1080i.

Turbo,
I had trouble at first with both an ATI 9550 and nVidia AGP card. I
connected them to a Philips 55" Lcos LCD. The only way I got everything
working is connecting my monitor(VGA) and LCD(DVI) at the same time. Using
setup wizard I configured a clone. I cannot explain how this works but it
did. It took alot of playing with the wizard but I finally got it working. If
someone can explain this please feel free to do so. If someone could also
convince Microsoft to develop a suggestions site that would be nice.

I wonder if instead of having two monitors hooked up just to fool with it, I
could use VNC and control the pc from another one while watching the LCD to
see if it springs to life with any setting..

thx

Figured this out!!

Ok.. so I have the pc hooked up via VGA cable and the tv lets me set
resolutions all the way up to 1080i HDTV but when hooking up via DVI I
cannot go above 640x480 16 bit color...

here is what it was..

when hooked up by DVI my computer saw the tv as a Plug and Play Monitor,
when hooked up via VGA cable it sees it as default monitor.. anyway when
hooked up via DVI I looked at all available modes and only the 640x480
showed even though I know from the manual and from testing via VGA calble
that it is capable of 19xxX10xx 1920x1080 resolution sooo I simply unchecked
that box in your adapter/monitor properties that says "hide unsupported
modes" and then chose the one I liked and it worked... now I have one more
question..

when setting it at 720p or 1080i resolution either by VGA or DVI the desktop
image is larger than the screen, my tv, while receiving this input looks
great, does not allow to resize the screen so I have to go down to 1080x768
and it fits fine.. any ideas on how to resize in other resolution..

thx

Derrick

This is standard with Digital technology TVs using the DVI/HDMI interface
since the emulate a conventional CRT TV which have always overscanned the
incoming image to prevent artifacts on the borders. You have to use
Overscan compensation which you apparenly have done. The VGA input on the
unit probably does not oversccan the image since the unit is acting as a PC
monitor whn using VGA.
