I am using Vista Media Center and the guide does not list the digital
channels. When I try to add one, I only have the option to add analog
channels. What do I have to change/install to be able to manually add
digital channels?

Where are you located?
What male/model TV tuner card do you have installed?
What is the source of your digital channels?

I have a Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1250 (Model 79xxx, Hybrid ATSC/QAM) tuner card.
The source of the digital channels is Cable and I am located in US. I am
running Vista SP2 and
release 6.0.6002.18103 version of Media Center.

In Vista Media Center you can only configure one tuner of a Hybrid tuner
card since both tuners and not be used concurrently.
Therefore you can configure either the analog tuner or the digital tuner.
Using the Hauppauge WinTV application you can use either tuner.
So I suggest that you configure the tuner you prefer to use in Media Center
and then use WinTV for the other one when you want to use it.
Also Vista Media Center does not support clear QAM digital cable. The WinTV
application does.
When you upgrade to Window 7 your MC configuration problems will be
resolved.

Thank you for the information. I have the Windows 7 upgrade, just haven't
installed it yet.

Thanks again,

Don

I've got a Hauppauge 1600 and an 1800 installed in my machine, which
was upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. Both work fine with analog
cable, but I can't get Clear QAM to work. I go through the
configuration in Media Center and it recognizes that there are four
tuners (two analog and two digital), but when it scans for channels it
can't find any.

I've tried manually configuring channels in the guide and that doesn't
help. I've tried the QAM_PowerToy registry hack and it didn't help.

I installed the November 2009 mce setup kit from Hauppauge, and it
hasn't helped.

I was never able to get QAM to work with Vista, and was waiting for
Windows 7; it hasn't changed anything.

Is there anything else for me to try?

There may be a problem with the splitters you are using to connect the cable
line to both the analog and to the digital tuner on each card at the same
time.. Try connecting the cable direct to the digital tuner and leaving the
analog tuner disconnected as a test.

The cable I'm using was previously connected to the television, which
could receive the QAM channels fine, but I'll try fiddling with the
cabling to double-check.

I tried configuring the system to use only one tuner in each card
(analog on one and digital on the other) and the digital tuner didn't
work.

Switching cables doesn't help. All the cables work properly when
connected to the television to receive QAM or connected to the analog
input of the card.

It may well be that the digital inputs or drivers just don't work. I
tried using other software packages with QAM and nothing ever worked
(Myth TV, the Hauppauge TV app, etc.).

Are you running the latest Win7 drivers from Hauppauge for the cards and not
drivers from MS?

I believe so. I got them off their website just the other day and they
were dated Nov. 2, 2009. Is there something newer?

If you are using the latest Hauppauge drivers and the latest version of
their WinTV application and have selected the source of your zip codes cable
supplier you should have no trouble receiving all analog and clearQAM
digital channels. Regretfully I have no other suggestions.
