IR hardware not detected

Ran into this problem when installing Win7 Ultimate. Had Media Center and IR
device set up working fine on Sony Vaio machine. Ran a clean build of Win7
and went to set up TV. When going thru the wizard to identify cable box and
such, got stuck at message above. Device manager showed everything working
fine, it just would get thru setup.

Saw a post about having two IR blasters plugged into the back of the IR
transceiver solving this. Tried it and it worked!! When you go thru the
wizard, you need to have TWO IR devices in the transceiver and it will start
working. After you are done, you can remove one. I heard, but did not
test, that you could just plug a headphone jack in and it would do the same
thing.

Hi, I got around the IR not detected in Windows 7 Ultimate with a TV wonder 650 card and a Verizon Digital adapter box for my PC.. Go the setup route and after the Media Center looks for the channels, pick manual setup. Pick Antenna signal ( I aso picked analog after that)l. After it searched more, it found no channels. Not to fear. Just accept it and go to the main settings page in the Mediacenter. If I remember correctly, Pick TV then Guide. Pick add a Channel. I added channel 3.

Since my Verizon box has no IR for the computer, I added channel 3 to the media Center and I change the channels with my Verizon remote. All my stations from the Verizon box go to Channel 3.

So the story here is, for some reason Windows won't detect the only channel my box sends the TV signal to and you must manually configure the media center to antenna, then go to settings and add the channel you want in the guide.

Why the TV guide controls what channel you can tune to is beyond me, but the scanner locks out all channels it does not detect. they must be manually added in the guide.

My TV works and looks ok now.

The reason you need the IR equipment is because without it, you're missing
out on a key feature of Media Center.

Sure you can set MC to channel 3 and manually tune the channels, but how
does that help when you are not at home (or asleep) and would like MC to
record something? When the MC computer cannot control the cable/sat box, you
have no way to do unattended recordings, which is one of the main features
of a DVR.

It's not the Verizon box that need IR for the computer, it's the computer
that needs the IR control for the Verizon box.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post this! I have literally spent
the last 2 hours scouring the internet looking for the solution to this
problem.
After reading your post I thought to myself, "it can't be that simple", but
decided to give it a shot.
I hadn't even been getting a red light on the transceiver and as soon as I
plugged in a second blaster, it started working and Win7 MC detected it.
Woohoo!
Oh... btw, my transceiver is the dell (Philips) ovu4120
