Media Center Receiver Service stops working...

I have been running this machine and configuration (32 bit Vista Ultimate,
sp2) for about a year and everything has worked fine -- never a problem with
Media Center or anything else.

Today I moved the hardware into a new case in order to get a little more
real estate and cooling. When I brought it back up it went into a real
slowdown for about 2 minutes -- maybe less -- and then gave me error:
"Windows Media Center Receiver Service stopped working and was closed."

I used my remote and started WMC. It started up fine. I selected Live TV
and it went into the near freeze mode again and eventually abended and gave
me error: "Digital Cable device registration application stopped working and
was closed."

I googled the error messages and came up with two MSKB articles -- 936229
and 938928 -- that were titled for these error messages and offered hot
fixes. Neither hot fix would run on my system, saying "The update does not
apply to your system" -- probably because the fixes were for sp1 and the
problem they were addressing was fixed in sp2. ...at least that's the
theory.

Does anyone know how I can find what WMC is unhappy with and fix it?

Digital Cable device registration sounds like you have an OCUR/Digital Cable
Tuner. If yes, it sounds like swapping cases broke the component checks for
DRM/protected video path?

Thanks Barb. I have the WinTV-HVR-1800 tuner. I think that I may have put
it back in a different slot when I reassembled it in the new case. This
morning I removed the Hauppage software & drivers and uninstalled and
removed the tuner completely. Now when it starts up I don't get the
"Receiver service stopped" error but it gives me the "Digital Cable device
registration application stopped" error every time it starts up.

I'll look around and see what I can find for DRM-related fixes.

Thanks Barb. I found the instructions for deleting all of the DRM files and
that seems to have fixed all of my [computer] problems.
