Do dual tuners exist for USB?

Suggestions for a good (and inexpensive) dual tuner for USB?

There are some hybrid NTSC/ATSC/QAM USB tuners but I am not aware of any USB
dual HD tuners.
Maybe Hot-Text is.

It's not clear that this one is a dual tuner. It handles ATCS, NTSC
and ClearQAM, but it doesn't really say that it can record two things
at once.

The Hauppauge 950Q is USB and it sounds similar, but it can definitely
record only one thing at a time.

Hmm, yea. That is often what I hear described as a dual tuner, ATSC, and
NTSC, but I will bet the OP was looking for one that can do two at a time.
That is, watch one while recording one. I did ask here one time if it was
conceivable to just hang two USB tuners off a box to get that capability,
and was told it would work. I wonder if Jeff is looking because he has a
laptop, or because of a small form factor PC. If the later, Hauppage does
make a half height, dual, (at the same time) tuner card. It is a single slot
PCI Express (PCIe) X1 board, half height card, the WinTV-HVR-2250. Actually
sounds like it has 4 tuners, two analog and two digital, but you only get to
use two at a time. Working fine in a Win 7 box for me. Got the latest
drivers from Hauppage, not Windows Update, and works fine.

As is typical with your replies you are incorrect, that is not a dual tuner.

You are correct. I was looking for a USB tuner (I have a laptop running XP
Media Center) that would allow me to watch one channel while recording
another - like many TIVO units do.

I'll look into the

"PCI Express (PCIe) X1 board, half height card, the WinTV-HVR-2250"

Thanks.

A dual tuner is one which contains two independent tuners with two separate
driver interfaces so that both tuners can be used concurently.
The user manual for the Volar Max linked to below:

http://www.avermedia-usa.com/AVerTV/Upload/Download/UM_EN_H826_AVer%20MediaCenter_MCS1.7.2_081127.pdf

Gives no content to imply that tuner is a Dual tuner. It appears to be a
standard Hybrid tuner with only one driver interface which allows the
calling software to select either the analog or the digital tuner. If it
was a Dual tuner then the manual would describe how to concurrently record
two programs and how to watch one program while recording another

Since you are running XP Media Center be aware that you can not configure a
digital tuner for MC unless you already have a separate analog tuner
configured. This restriction does not exist in VMC or Win7MC. There is no
such restriction with the Hauppauge WinTV application.

Thank you for the info. I am a total novice at this.

What I want is basically to transform a XP MCE laptop into a sort of "Tivo"
DVR with dual tuners. That is, by attaching the Cox Cable (which now goes
to a TV) to the laptop and thus gain the ability to record 2 channels
simultaneously, or record one and watch one.

Will the Hauppauge WinTV to do that for me, in XP?

That is what any knowledgeable person means when they say dual tuner, which
is why hot-text isn't providing useful information.

That board won't help you on the laptop. I do gather you could hook two
individual USB tuners to the laptop though. Haven't tried that personally,
and there are the caveats others have mentioned if you are using XP, and the
MCE interface.

are clueless, he wants a dual tuner, you keep providing links to a tuner
that is not a dual tuner, as I said, you are clueless and have no idea what
