I have just bought this video camera with the sole purpose being to
record a very important function I'm attending and post clips of it on
Youtube to share with friends. I am pretty hopeless with technology and
I need a bit of help! I just did a couple of recordings...tried 16.9 and
4.3 aspect ratio but both are squashed in Windows Media Player and on
Youtube as well when I tried uploading them... Does anyone know how I
can record a video and have it appear on Youtube or WMP in the right
ratio so that its not all squashed sideways? Hope someone can help!

While this subject is off topic, you can find the information of how to make
videos for youtube, here.

Click the link under "Uploading" to find the video format.

I have the same problem. I have a JVC Everio Hard Disc and all video
downloads onto my PC as 4:3 if I use the USB connection.
Peculiarly, the software that came with the camera, Cyberling Power Director
Power Producer etc. sees the downlaoed video as widescreen 16:9, whilst all
other software including Roxio, Windows Media Player, Windows Media Centre,
Corel Paint Shop Pro all show as 4:3.

If I use a firewire connection, which I bought extra for about £4 UK, which
only allows downloading video in real time as opposed to copying files, Roxio
sees it as widescreen. I have not tried Windows Movie maker, Windows Media
Player etc this way yet.

I am looking for a universal solution, which must be out there somewhere.

I created an application to correct the aspect ratio tag in the
Panasonic mpeg .mod files. It modifies all files in a directory tree,
in place so you don't need extra space. However, there is no going back
so make sure you have the problem before using my application.

Please contact me at la...@lockspace.com or as lockspace on xbox live,
if you are interested.
If enough people are interested I will post the application on a web
page. You will need Windows with the latest c++ libraries installed (
from Microsoft)

I'm sure it is a useful program, but since you clipped the rest of the
thread, it's hard to tell what problem it is addressing.
