Everything was going perfectly well with my previous Windows Live Mail Beta
but suddenly after I installed the new beta and after a while it started
giving me the following message:
Sorry. Something unexpected happened and Windows Live Mail must close. Your
most recent changes may not be saved.
What triggered the problem, might be that I tried to make Windows Live Mail
the default email client in Internet Options. Dunno if it has anything to do
with it.
Microsoft people! Any help?
Eyal (dev).
BTW: Thanks to Colin Brown in this post:
Re: Windows Live Mail 14.0.5027.0908 (Beta)
for posting a way to roll back to the previous stable version which actually
works fine.
PS. Out of curiosity - which font is the new default one? It's great!
See if it solves your problem.
Eyal (dev).
Renaming the contacts folder unfortunately did not work.
Many thanks!
You say Rename this folder: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows
Live Contacts
What do I name it?
Sorry to be dumb.

I am running the same WLM version mentioned below in Win XP SP3.
Rhys
There is no registry hive called HKLU
The correct place to look in the registry for the Contacts folder
associated with the Default account and a Live ID(hotmail, live, msn.com
etc) is
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts\Database
When looking at the above key in the registry, one will see
C:\Documents and Settings\Merlin\Contacts\<your live id>\ with a data field
containing the numerical name of the folder.
The registry key name value..
C:\Documents and Settings\Merlin\Contacts\<your live id>\
is really pointing to...
C:\Documents and Settings\<your windows id>\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts
which(when viewed in Explorer) one will find that numerical named folder
containing the contacts' database, backup database, and log files.

I have to do this every 2-4 times I run Windows Live Mail. WLM otherwise
works great, but this is a huge pain in the butt. (same issue happens with
Messenger, it won't sign in when this happens). Its groundhog day every
day, since I have to delete contacts at least once a day to keep it working.
This bug has been around now for several versions of WLM. I currently have
14.0.8064.0206 running on Vista SP1. Is this a WLM bug that is going to be
fixed anytime soon? Or is there some known software incompatibility causing
the issue? I searched several archives but could not find anything
Glenn
1. Tools/Options/Advanced/Maintenance/
- reset Compact Counter to 1
2. Delete all folders in the Storage Folders/Recovered Items folder(do not delete the Recovered Items folder)
3. Empty the Storage Folders/Deleted Items folder
4. File/Work Offline
5. File/Exit
Do not interrupt the compaction
Open WLM and reset the counter to the previous number(I leave mine set at 50)
