I have Windows XP SP2 (English version) with a Russian MUI on a computer,
and some users are set up for English, others for Russian, but the
Russian-speaking users have to post usenet messages in English sometimes,
and when they go to spell check they are told that all of the words are
misspelled, because it's expecting russian. What can be done so that it
spell checks both Russian and English for these users.

Tools, Options, Spelling, Language is where you select the language that OE will use for
spell checking.

You can select only one language at a time, so they will need to change it before they
spell check.

OE gets its spelling dictionaries from other Microsoft products such as Word of Office.
If the language you need doesn't show in OE you need to install the desired Proofing Tools
in Word of Office.

Great, thanks,
I have the russian and english options, but I am curious is there anyway to
be able to spell check in both, because what about a multi-language message?
In word I just highlight and change the language for each part, if it
doesn't automatically detect or if a sentence is multi-lingual?
Also, I want to get the proofing tools for french and spanish too, where
would I get them? Are they a whole different MUI or can I get smaller files
somewhere?
thanks

Outlook Express isn't as smart as Word. Although is uses the dictionaries from Word, OE
has a much more primitive spell checker engine. You might be better off in this case
doing a copy/paste to Word, spell check there, then copy/paste back.

Some versions of Word come with the French and Spanish proofing tools, but they are not
installed by default. See:
WD2000: Spanish and French Proofing Tools Available for English Word 2000
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=247939

There are also some freeware/shareware spell checkers that will work with OE. See the
software section of the URL in my signature. One of them offers spell checking in 10
different languages. I didn't mention it before because they don't appear to offer
Russian as an option.
