Bruce is correct that only (.wav) and (.mid) files can be embedded. Other
sound file types could be used if linked to a Web folder -- not embedded. Of
course, with the use of any sound file with a message one should be aware of
the size of the file and the connection type of the recipient.

I do have a 1,400 + page manual for WinXP, but it's a lot easier to ask here
than to read *War and Peace*. <grin>

With a new Rich Text message choose Format> background sound. Paste the link
into the file location box. There will be warning that the file cannot be
found -- ignore this. The sound in the message can be tested using preview
without actually sending (when connected to the Internet). It could also be
sent to yourself for testing.
Note: The sound clip is 134KB in size.
Note 2: Sound files can be quickly become too large to be practically used
with a low speed Internet connection. Use of large files with e-mail is a
common complaint of users.

Of course, that's where the trouble begins, with the drop down box that
lists one or two file types that cannot be used as embedded background
sound. Unfortunately, these include two of the better compressed music file
types.

Heirloom pointed some of this out.
<quote>
The recipient who reads the MHTML-formatted e-mail message does not hear the
sound.
This problem occurs even if the *.wma or *.mp3 file name extensions appear
in the Files of type box.

I never saw those in the drop down box. I guess they added the type but not
the functionality.
