Address book in .wab

I set up a new identity for Outlook Express, but then I went back to the
Original Identity.
In the process I cannot get my address book back like I like it.
I have a saved address book in a folder, but when I import it, the Address
book just doubles
up on the names and still will not let me have the same as the saved Address
book.

How can I uninstall the Address book and then reinstall the Address book so
that I can then
import the saved Address book.

I have lost track of what you are doing, but under Edit click on Select All,
then click on Delete at the top of the task (tool?) bar. Looks simple enuf
for me, and that is what the Help Folder says to do under HELP......take a
look at that.

Thank you Heather, but that only deletes the addresses from the address
book. What I would like to do is
get rid of the entire Address book and then re install a new Address Book
that I could then import my
addresses into it.

Hi Bruce; My original Address book had several Folders with address in
them. Now there are several Folders that
appear to be missing. So I tried to recreate the Folders and I find that I
am unable because a popup tells me that
there is already a Folder with that name. I tried other names and got the
same result. So somehow these Folders
are hidden from me. I went into Control Panel - Folder Options and I
noticed that show hidden Folders was
checked. I unchecked it and then hit apply, then I rechecked it and hit
apply, ok.
However, these Folders still are there but unseen in my address book.
How do I once again get these Folders to be seen, so that I can see the
addresses I have in them?
thank you

Do an Advanced Search and include Hidden Files and Folders. Search for:

*.wab
&
~wa

See what you can find and figure out.

I had saved a copy of my Address book, a couple of days ago. I saved it
into a folder on my desktop.
This address book is just exactly what I want back.
I went into my programs then Outlook express and checked the address book
that is in there. It is the
address book that I am hoping to repair or make it to be just exactly like
the one I have on my desktop
folder.
So the Address Book in my Programs/Outlook Express is the one that needs to
be fixed.

Did you do the search? You should have found a few ABs.

When you try to import, are you opening the Address Book and /then/ Import |
Address Book (wab)? You can't do it from the OE main window.

See Ken's reply and remember that folders and groups do not export nor
import.

Hi Ken;
I do not have an Address Book at - Start|Programs | Accessories | click
Address Book ?
So I went into C/Programs/ Outlook Express and clicked on the Address book.
Then I did as you suggested
clicked on File and chose - Show all Contents - it opened up all the
Folders that I want. However,
I don't know how to keep it like that, because when I closed and went into
Outlet Express Address book
it was just like I don't want it. So somehow I need to know how to save it
like it shows all contents.

Yes I know that the Folders and Groups do not export and import. They
import as a large group of addresses
which I can then make Folders and assign the addresses to the correct
Folder.
My problem is that the Address Book will not let me make new Folders because
they already exist, which I
cannot see. However, doing what Ken suggested about clicking on:

Start | Programs | Accessories | click AddressBook, on it's File menu choose
Show All Contents.
Which I do not have an Address Book in the Accessories. So I did as he
suggested by going into
Programs - then Outlook Express - then clicking on the Address book, which I
could then click on
Show All contents. This will show everything that I want, but I cannot get
it to stay revealed in my
Address book that I work with. They are not revealed once I click out of
Programs - Outlook Express -
Address book.

Re: I had saved a copy of my Address book, a couple of days ago. I saved it

into a folder on my desktop.

Go to where your existing Address book is located, (user name).wab, rename
it to OLD(user name).wab.

Copy above saved address book on desktop to same location.

This will replace existing address book with the one on your desktop.

Good luck,
Ken

I did as you suggested; I went into, My Computer - Programs - Outlook
Express - Address Book
I changed the Address Book from wab.exe to Old.exe
It immediatly created a new Address Book, just like the one I renamed.
so I did not accomplish anything doing that.
thanks anyway, it was worth a try.

I did not say that.

I said locate your address book (user Name).wab.

Use search to find your address book. Note: in search there is Advance
Options, be sure hidden files and folders is checked.

Ok sorry.
I went into the Search Advanced options for hidden files and folders
(checked)
I asked it to search for (my user name).wab
It searched and searched found nothing. Perhaps it is not listed with my
user name?
However, when I do an advanced search for .wab files I have several that are
found.
some are a little older dates but are still uptodate with the way I wish my
address book now was.

So what is it that I should do, since I was unable to find the .wab files
listed with my user name.wab?

Re: (user name)

User name is the one you have in Outlook Express.

What are the user names of found .wab files, are any the same name you use
in OE?

By the way, Windows XP by default, hides a lot of files

To show hidden files.

Go to Control panel and open Folder Options or open My Documents, choose
Tools on the menu bar, then choose Folder Options on it's menu. Either way
opens the Folder Options dialog window. Choose the View tab then tick "Show
hidden files and folders", click OK.

While there uncheck "Hide file extension for known file types"

Yes, there are several places where they can be found. About 8
There are some listed as "Address book files.wab" this is the ones I wish I
had.
those listed as "Administrator.wab" are some that I don't want.

Hold everything. I've got it. When I was advised to make a new Identity
because of a problem with slow very slow email send. I did and it did not
help that problem. So, I thought I would go back to the Identity I had.
The problem was that I had also made a new identity with my name as
user name. Thus I could not get my address back the way I wanted it.
I just checked and there was another Identity, called "Main Identity"
so I just clicked on it out of curiosity. Voila, there was my old email
Address Book. Just like I wanted it.
So.. Thank you Ken for putting so much time on this problem. But now
we can rest that it is solved.
thanks again

I'm not going to linger, but it sounds like you ended up with one more
