Hi Fitzie ... this is a gorgeous presentation ...
When visiting AZ the last time I was fortunate enough to see some of Virgil Julis Nez' original work in the Sedona Gallery ... his
colors are even more stunning and bold than what you see here ... he is a real fine artist!!

Virgil J. Nez was born in 1963 in Pinon on the Navajo Reservation in Northern Arizona. He studied Architecture and Fine Arts at Mesa
Community College before going on to receive his Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree in Illustration and Painting from Northern Arizona
University.

In 1991, Virgil designed the T-shirt used at the Northern Arizona University Jazz Festival. He also received the Best of Division
award in 1992 for Painting at the Museum of Northern Arizona's Navajo Show for "Ye'noloo'shi" ("The Shapeshifter"), a 4'x8' oil on
stretched canvas.

Other awards include second place at annual poster exhibition, Pueblo Grande Museum Indian Market for 1992; First place in oil
painting, first place in watercolor painting, and first place in pastel drawing at The Navajo Show in Flagstaff, Arizona in 1993;
First place at 1994s annual Pueblo Grande Museum Indian Market's Poster Contest with "The Scent Of The Coming Rain". Best of
Division, painting category, at the Navajo Show in Flagstaff 1995; First place in oil painting at Santa Fe Indian Market 1996. First
and second place in watercolor painting at the Navajo Show in Flagstaff, Museum of Northern Arizona 2001. Merit Award in oil
painting for "Shapeshifter". The University of Kansas Museum of Anthropology, Lawrence, Kansas 2001; and 2002 Honorable mentioning
at the Heard Museum Indian Market.

Virgil's work appeared in Arizona Highways Magazine, November 1994 edition, with "Three Generational Yei's", 4'x8' oil on stretched
canvas and was featured in the book "Enduring Traditions" by Lois and Jerry Jacka.

Wow, you are lucky, Helen! I'll get to the southwest someday! Actually I
am visiting Texas for the first time in April... San Antonio. I will be
there on business but I'm certain to get in some vacation time, too.
