Midi: African Drums

Thank You Neville, for bringing this wonderful artist to my attention ...
I adore her work, her water colour technique is fabulous. This is not an
easy medium to work with, but Sue's got a dead-on brush stroke and a vibrant
pallet !!

I just love all your "stationery stationery," Helen. ;)) I've always
wondered: Do you design the envelopes, or is that an image you found on the
web that you modify every time? I've never seen it anywhere else, I think,
and I wondered.

I love this artist's style, too. Realistic watercolor...not easy to do, I
would think.

Hi Meli,
Thank you for your very kind words.
I make all these cards myself. Over the years I've designed alot of templates in psp. I make them myself and use them, filling up
with graphics for the card mainly.
all backgrounds and envelope fills I ususally create myself.
All of my templates have several layers for each item in the graphic (sometimes up to 32 for an "empty" card). Keeping all items in
seperate layers gives me full grip on every single dot and line, so I can work with each individually.
When all specific graphics and other stuff, like text, are added and the card is finished I'm usually stuck with approx. 50-55
layers.
Both the front and the inside (or back) of the card are made in one template, so I can be sure every line will stay in the right
place.
Most of the work is done in a graphics program, putting it all together in a script is the least hard of the part :o))

This is so interesting, Helen! I've always admired your graphics work, and I
knew these cards were a lot of work, but I had no idea it was so much! I
figured you must do your own templates, since I've never seen anyone else do
anything similar. I really don't know very much about graphics. My focus is
the music, particularly if I sing it, which I usually do. (See my reply to
Fitzie in my thread about how I do the recordings. It sounds a lot like what
you do, except with layers of sound.) I really should do some more tutorials
for PSP, since there's so much that you can do, so much to know.

Thanks for the explanation! I'll look forward to more of your cards. :)

I think most people don't realize how much time one post is costing the creator, Meli.
I suppose your musical posts cost you even more time than me creating my cards.
You have to record the song, make the synch (something I still haven't done, because I realize how time consuming that is), then
find a suitable graphic, script;
put it all together ... wow ... this must be at least a full week's project ... Only when you are aware of all the work put in a
stationery, one could really appreciate the real value of it ... whether it's made by a pro and has alot of fancy stuff in it, or
made by a newbie, who spent all his/her time getting to know the way and all ins and outs. I still remember how often I burned the
midnight oil figuring things out :o))

Thanks for empathizing, Helen. ;) Actually, the post I sent yesterday took
a couple of weeks. I found the song maybe a month ago. It was easy to
learn...folksongs usually are, and I've been playing guitar since I was a
little girl, and don't do anything complicated with the guitar, anyway. The
harmonies I just hear; I don't practice them much, I just hear them in my
head. I grew up singing in harmony with my brother and in choirs, and I
almost can't sing without harmony. So, after learning the song and
practicing some, it took me about four hours to record it the first time,
but I didn't like it, and I redid it a couple of times. The synching takes
several hours, although Richard has made the script a lot less
time-consuming. Now it will jump over and start the music midway through,
instead of starting at the beginning every time. This song took less time to
sync, because all the verses were very similar.

But, yes, it's a ton of work. Then I had to do a lot of work on the images,
and my friend Fran always helps me with those and makes suggestions. So,
yes, I would say that it took me about two weeks to do. Thing is, it's so
much fun for me, and my posts are so personal, with my own songs that I
sing, that I'd rather just send two or three things a month, than to do
smaller, less time-consuming projects. And I'm just addicted to the syncs. I
actually can use a lot of other scripts ;)), but I always come back to the
syncs.

Thanks for your always kind comments, Helen. :))
