I have XP Home edition and office XP with outlook for e-mail. Outlook asks
periodically if you want to archive old messages. I usually answer no. But
I think my wife may have responded 'yes(or OK)' last time because now there
is an archive folder on the folder list that shows up. The problem is it has
all the folders replicated (inbox, deleted, sent etc) similar to my personal
folder list and archived folder is now showing up in Outlook Today. (First
entry). Now when I retrieve me messages somehow those are all going to the
inbox in the archive folder (not the personal folder inbox as before). (In
contrast my other m/c where I do not user archive does not have archive
folder or archive.pst file either).
Question: Is there a way to get rid of archive folder and data file?
(Outlook wont let me delete the file) or can I hide it or can I disable it
somehow so that my retrieved messages start going to the inbox in personal
folder.
Thank you.

You can turn off the archive feature of Outlook.

1.. start Outlook and navigate to Tools \ Options \ Other
2.. click on AutoArchive
3.. in the window that opens you can change several aspects of how
AutoArchive behaves, or even turn it off.
4.. make and save any changes

You can not delete the archive file while Outlook is running. You will need
to exit Outlook first and then delete the file. Also, on the Tools \
Options \ Mail Setup page, under Data Files., you can change the location of
the archive file.
