I checked under the advanced tab,
but the box is not checked to delete the TIF upon closing the browser. I
have always had selected the option to automatically check for new versions
of web pages from within internet options. I do have several cache cleaner
programs installed, but none of the are set for any type of automatic
operation. I also ran the repair tool from the command prompt, but it made
no difference. The same behavior continues. My OS is Windows 2000. I have
searched the web and MS knowledge base, but was unable to find any
information on this issue. Anyone here that might have an idea as to what
might be causing the TIF to be deleted/not retained like the described
manner?

That's way too big. It can actually slow IE down instead of speeding it up.
Set it to 40 or 50 MB.
