At eighteen, Frida was
in a streetcar accident
which left her
spinal column
broken in three places. "Tree of Hope,
Stay Firm"

Throughout her life,
Frida had many surgeries
and lived in constant pain.

with Monkey"

Frida often painted
herself with monkeys
or parrots which
symbolized the children
she could not have
because of her accident.
"The Two Fridas"

Frida felt a
great conflict
between her
Mexican roots
and the industrialized
world of the U.S.
and Europe.

Although macabre, this is my favorite painting by Frida
because it provokes such empathy
for her suffering
during her short life.
She died in 1954 at the age of forty-seven.


These are some of my favorite paintings
because of their originality of ideas
and composition.

Wonderful job with this Meli! I can well sympathize... living with chronic

This is an excellent introduction to Frida Kahlo's work which should
encourage people to learn more about her.
You spiked my guns Meli, I was going to mention Diego Rivera in my reply
<LOL>, I believe that Leon Trotsky was killed at their house...... They
were a fascinating bunch and this is a truly superb presentation of her art.

Thanks, Shirley. Her life was just fascinating. If you get a chance, surf around and read a couple of bios. She had a short, sad, but very eventful life.

It should be out anytime, Debi. I can't believe I haven't seen any trailers for it. It caused a big sensation when they were considering actresses for the title role, since Madonna and Jennifer Lopez, and I can't remember which other actresses, were up for the part. But I haven't heard or read anything about it since.

Thanks, Jill. Yes, Don did the popup and also added another part. That's why I put the credits the way I did. I hope that's the way to do it. I didn't want to include a lot of details in the preview pane. I think I used a post of Ralph's from last summer to make it.

Yes, I had forgotten about that, but Trotsky *was* killed at their home. He was one of Frida's many lovers. Of course, Diego was a womanizer...with Frida's sister, among others. And they were always right in the thick of the artistic community in their day. I, too, find them fascinating. I also love Diego's work.
 
I'm really curious to see how much of their lives the movie will show, and what the focus will be.

Thank you for looking, Robbie. I know it's not huge, and especially being art images. And especially since I reduced the full-screen image from 265 to 50 kbs. :)  Of course, you can tell it somewhat, but there wasn't much way around it.

Yes, she had a really sad life. I like the last image because I think it's so original to depict her constant pain as an innocent deer shot up with arrows. I find her art to be very original, which is maybe why she is so famous.
