One method for removing the branding without having to tinker
with the Registry is.
1. Close Internet Explorer if it's open.
2. Click on the START button, then click on the "Run..." menu
item. A box will open.
3. Type the following line in the box exactly as shown then press
OK and restart Internet Explorer. ("Clear" is case sensitive)
rundll32.exe iedkcs32.dll,Clear

"For JB and any others who have AOL and Internet Explorer: To remove the
AOL Branding (rotating blue AOL) you have to do some Registry hacks. If
you do not feel comfortable in the registry or do not know how to use
the registry editor (regedit.exe) then DONT DO
THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To remove the "static" (non rotating) AOL logo (called brand) go to the
key: HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main and
find the following keys in the right side pane (pain?):
BigBitmap
SmallBitmap
On each key, right mouse click and select Modify; in the dialog box that
opens, clear the text in the bottom box and click OK. Key data should
appear something like the next line:
c:\program files\internet explorer\signup\"filename".bmp
or
c:\progra~1\intern~1\signup\"filename".bmp
To remove the active or rotating AOL logo, go to the key:
HKey_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar and find
the following keys in the right side pane:
BrandBitmap
SmBrandBitmap
On each key, right mouse click and select Modify; in the dialog box that
opens, clear the text in the bottom box and click OK. Key data should
appear something like the next line:
c:\program files\internet explorer\signup\"filename".bmp
or
c:\progra~1\intern~1\signup\"filename".bmp
After completing these registry changes, the next time you go into
Internet Explorer, you'll be back to the original E and rotating
E/globe.
For a variation on this idea, if you want to change the image that does
appear in the top right, you can make your own images and set pointers
to them in the registry, just like AOL did! To see the actual images (or
modify them) that AOL uses, go to the Internet Explorer location (on my
computer it's C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\SIGNUP). In that
directory (for AOL v5 and IE v5) you'll find four bitmaps (.BMP):
AOL38.bmp (large rotating)
AOL22.bmp (small rotating)
22STATIC.bmp (small still)
38STATIC.bmp (large still)
While you're cleaning up your IE, note the paths that AOL used to store
their graphics and you can check'em out or use as templates."

Touch Base,
Thanks so much for the tip!! It worked like a charm!! I
have been hunting for an answer for months. I know a few
other people I can spread the word about finally getting
rid of AOL completely(LOL). Funny thing though, when I
did the first step, it changed the AOL logo, on the right,
back to the original IE icon at the same time. So I
didn't even have go into the registry at all. Maybe
someday when I have nothing to do<G>, I'll go in there and
play around with that. TYVM. :-D termic.
