Department of Entertainment Technology Annual Exhibition 2003

"Setting the Stage" is not just a popular axiom but a very
real
and demanding employment opportunity. Take the time to read through the
credits at the end of a movie or even of your favourite local soapie.
There
you will see job titles such as "props master",
"wardrobe
mistress", "make-up artist", "set
dresser",
"décor designer", "lighting designer
"and "sound
technician. These are some of the people responsible for "setting
the
stage", whether for a TV production, for a big screen movie or for
a
theatre event.

Alumni students still "setting the stage" include Oliver
Wilter
(Southern Lighting), Neo Jobeta (Provincial Arts Council Free State),
Frans
Lewis (Freelance Art Director), Johnny Breedt (Freelance Art Director),
Madelein Krugell (Make-up artist and wig maker), Alicia Martinez-Muller
(Backstage) and Melina van der Merwe (Huis-Huis)

Technikon Pretoria is proud to be the only tertiary institution in South
Africa where all technical and artistic aspects of the Entertainment
Industry is presented and can be specialized in up to Doctorate level,
at
the Arts Faculty's Department of Entertainment Technology.

The subjects presented include the following: Theory and Practice of
Lighting, Sound, Costumes, Décor Painting, Make-up and Properties, as
well
as Textile Design, Theatre History, Stage Technology and Communication
Dynamics. Apart from this the students at the Department get the
opportunity
to work on productions staged by the Departments of Drama, Dance,
Musical
Theatre, Vocal Arts and the Music School.

The Department of Entertainment Technology will once again exhibit their
talented student's work. Amongst others, expect to see Renaissance
Armour,
Mexican Wall panels, Afro-Indian Costumes, Versace-inspired silk-screen
prints, upholstered furniture, masks and a visual journey of character
make-up. Several of the works will be for sale.

The work of the accomplished young students is sure to "set the
stage" for another ostentatious Annual Exhibition of the Department
of
Entertainment Technology. The exhibition can be viewed at the Pretoria
Association of the Arts Gallery, 173 Mackie Street. The exhibition runs
from
the 26th of August until the 11th of September 2003.

There's nothing to be done about it when the sender's mail program doesn't
put the proper header information in the message headers.
