Hi all, I'm trying to troubleshoot my DFS shares, on most computers when a
user tries to execute anything in a DFS share I get the following:

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not
have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

I've checked the obvious permissions, and everything is correct. Also,
since this doesn't happen on all my machines, it tells me it's probably
something with AD not updating properly (ie, I have a newly installed member
server with R2 where I can browse but not execute anything in DFS while
logged in as administrator, while it works on other machines).

Anyone have seen this, any pointers?

Thanks,
Luis

Hello Luis,

If you think about replication problems start with dcdiag, netdiag and replmon
from the support tools on the install disk. If you get any error post the
complete output here. Also check that DNS is only using internal domain DNS
servers and not external form your ISP's.

Best regards

On the particular DFS link you are having issues with, does it have single or
multiple targets? If multiple targets check permissions on all targets are
the same?
eg:

(sample dfs root) = \\domain.com\name
(sample dfs link) = \\domain.com\name\link1
(sample dfs target) \\server1\shareA (perms should be same as server2/server3)
(sample dfs target) \\server2\shareA (perms should be same as server1/server3)
(sample dfs target) \\server3\shareA (perms should be same as server1/server2)

Are you using DFS replication at all? Also in order to help troubleshoot a
little better can you describe your DFS setup a little more.

Thanks,
