I have lost the Explorer>View>Options. How can I get it back.

Try this:
Open the Registry Editor (Start>Run>Regedit) and navigate to this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Internet Explorer \ Restrictions
and see if there is a value in the right-hand pane named NoBrowserOptions.
If it is there, right-click it and click Modify, and set it to 0

It affects both the Browser options in IE, and the Folder Options in Windows Explorer.

Post back with your results.

You mean "Folder options"? I have it there. I also have it under the Tools menu. It is also at "START, Settings, Folder Options". Are you missing them all?

I understand it is not unusual to have it in only one of the Explorer menus.

My response is the same.

(1) Only OE has just "Options", and it is under Tools.
(2) IE has "Internet Options", also under Tools.
(3) Explorer is as I said, for Win98SE IE6 SP1, fully updated.

Perhaps you have some kind of add-on; possibly a BHO.

As PCR suggests, have you a Tools menu in Windows Explorer? It may be there instead.

    Excuse me PCR, I don't like to correct people but Windows 98SE has Options under the View Menu at the very bottom of the menu, just under the Refresh selection.  I work with 98se at work and it is there.  Have installed other software and think that may have removed it, don't know how tho.
    OE does have it, but I am not talking about OE.
(2) IE has "Internet Options", also under Tools.
    again, I am not talking about IE either.
(3) Explorer is as I said, for Win98SE IE6 SP1, fully updated.
    oops, you are telling me that EXPLORE, MS main file management tool, is not installed on any Windows OS until IE6 is installed?  Where did you get your information?  I have been installing windows since 3.1 and Explorer is what replaced the Filemanager in 3.1..

Thanks anyway, no help

The way I read PCR's (3) is that his Explorer toolbar is what he described for his
system, which is running Win98SE with IE6 sp1. I have Win98fe running IE5.5, and just
like PCR, on the Explorer toolbar my View menu has a Folder Options, and I also have a
Tools menu with the same Folder Options. However, if I use My Computer, I have View,
but not Tools.

See this google search for a possible answer:

(watch for wrap).

I have read it...what you fail to understand is that the Options or Folder Options menu item is not in the same location on all installations of Win98. Some have it on the View menu, others on the Tools menu, and some have it on both. There are many factors involved in where it ends up on your particular system, including the version of IE installed on your computer, and the upgrade path (or lack thereof), of both Windows and IE.

So, do you have an Options or Folder Options entry on the Tools menu, or not?

To put an end to this,

I have done a lot of research - internet search as well. Windows 98SE seems
to have this problem as a search in Google revealed. Anyway, What I found
out is as follows, AND IT WORKED.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explor
er]
"NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=hex:95,00,00,00
"CDRAutoRun"=hex:00,00,00,00
@=hex:00,00,00,00
"NoLogoff"=hex:01,00,00,00
"NoRecentDocsMenu"=hex:00,00,00,00
"NoFavoritesMenu"=hex:01,00,00,00
"NoNetConnectDisconnect"=dword:00000001
"NoStartBanner"=dword:00000001
"NoSetActiveDesktop"=dword:00000001
"NoFolderOptions"=dword:00000000
"NoWindowsUpdate"=dword:00000001

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Expl
orer]
"NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=hex:95,00,00,00
"CDRAutoRun"=hex:00,00,00,00
@=hex:00,00,00,00
"NoLogoff"=hex:01,00,00,00
"NoRecentDocsMenu"=hex:00,00,00,00

"NoNetConnectDisconnect"=dword:00000001
"NoStartBanner"=dword:00000001
"NoSetActiveDesktop"=dword:00000001
"NoFolderOptions"=dword:00000000
"NoWindowsUpdate"=dword:00000001

Ok, now I have the following.
1.)
Explorer
View
Folder Options

2.)
Explorer
Tools
Folder Options

Please note
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explor
er]
"NoFolderOptions"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Expl
orer]
"NoFolderOptions"=dword:00000000

No where have I read that the .DEFAULT is part of the problem, but as is
evident, it does. Because I now have the Folder Options back.

If I have stepped on any toes, I am sorry. It seemed that no one was
reading the post when I said i ::::

> > You mean "Folder options"? I have it there. I also have it under the

them all?

----
the answer was YES! Is that so hard to believe. I was becoming very
frustrated. Oh, I do have the Tool Internet Options back as well.

I do thank all that led or made me look a little deeper into 98se to get
this setteled. For others that are having this same problem, take the

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explor
er]
"NoFolderOptions"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Expl
orer]
"NoFolderOptions"=dword:00000000

and make the dword change.

Also, the editor I used to find NoFolderOptions is at RegEdit Plus June 22,

That is one (or rather two) of the places in the Registry where the Folder Options can be disabled.
There is another situation where the menu item is still there, but is restricted, as is described here:
http://www2.cajun.net/~theriots/blk/admin.htm

The questions you were asked were to determine if you were looking in the right location for the the menu item, as it does not appear in the same place on all systems, as I said. Sorry you did not understand the distinction.

Glad you got it fixed, and were able to search it out on your own. Google is your best friend! :-)
