When you go back into the virtual memory settings window look carefully at
the grayed out values you should see the settings that you entered.
Windows is managing the virtual memory but is doing so in accordance with
your specifications.
One note - never repeat never specify a maximum size limit for the virtual
memory in Windows 95/98/Me. There is no benefit that can ever achieved by
doing so and it can cause problems ranging from "out of memory" errors
when you try to launch a new application all the way up to the total
destruction of the contents of the hard drive.
