Is there any way to copy a directory, or many, or a whole partition,
to a new partition, while preserving the directory date, the date the
directory was created?
Background:
Every year I need that info more than I did before. I thought
filecopy.exe preserved the date, but after testing (only once) it
doesn't.
Partition Magic enables one to copy a whole partition, but then if I
want to increase partition size from 1 gig to more, it won't do it
because 5 of the partitions don't have enough empty space. Something
about increasing sector size. I'm trying to make a list of files I can
more temporarily to provide empty space, they say 125M each partition,
but it might be more like 75Meg, but I thought you all might know
another way. If I could do this, it would come in handy a lot of
times.
(I know how to change the date on a file, but not on a directory. And
I was hoping I wouldn't have to do all that. It would take a lot of
time.)
Thanks again.

Well this will keep me busy for a while. Thanks.

My PM7 also has trouble with two partitions because it gets an error,
and doesn't copy anything if it gets the error.
I read tonight, not at the powerquest site, that DriveImage or
Drivecopy (both from them too) is supposed to have a parm "/ire",
ignore rxxxx errors, which would just not copy the bad directory.
That would be fine. Since this function (copying partitions) is
basically built into PM7, I'm hoping it has a command line parm like
this, so let me check:
Well it has /DBG[= filename], which will identify the file,
And it also has /IFC, Ignore File System Checks. That sounds like
what I want, doesn't it, for the two partitions with errors??

I do it now, but it was miserable setting up System Commander. The
documentation is terrible, and they admitted on the phone that it
doesn't do everything the drawing on the box makes it seem like it
does. And even what it does do, it was so hard to set up. I just
don't touch it anymore, and I'm afraid to uninstall it.

I have some of her stuff already. Registry stuff. Probably read about
it here. It's good.
I have whois too, and when I got it it was great, but months later
(last month) it didn't find things that some websites found. Her
other programs aren't dependant on outside servers like whois is.
Hey, I already have Replicator! It's already installed! I used to
have an icon for it, but I used to have so many crashes and I lost the
icon. Thanks! I was planning on a regular habit of backing up, but
first have to put in the new hard drive.
I'll test this tomorrow (today) probably.
And I'll look up what it says about the others.

Perhaps start a new post: "PM7 Error ???". Put the error number in it. I don't know PM7, but would a
"Scandisk /Surface /Checkonly" shed light on it? (Remove /Checkonly" to actually fix it, but some
have said Scandisk may do a poor job. Therefore, how about a lower level HDD repair, beneath the
file system? You may download a DOS app for that from the HDD manufacturer. I have one from WD &
another from Maxtor. I think it best to correct this error, instead of trying to have PM7 ignore it.
(OK-- maybe-- image the drive with the error first, just as a precaution.)

Sounds like it, all right. So, make the image/whatever. Then. go back & repair the original.

Then, that's another thing to do, after you've made a full system backup. (I've got some to-do's,
myself.) Now, BootIt NG appears to do partitioning/resizing easily enough, and copying. It should
also Image easily/well, which is next for me. However, I must finally admit to a fear of actually
installing it. (It runs well uninstalled, off the floppy, for what I do.) And I'm not quite ready
to attempt a multi-boot.

| OK
My BootIt NG copy of C:partition does Scandisk/Defrag well. In fact, I'm running off it, shrunken to
about 8 GB.
